For years I have been hearing that NC is the best place to buy furniture and I've heard High Point mentioned before. So now that we live here and need some new furniture I'm wondering where is the best place to go. I've already made the rounds locally and I'm wondering if all the hype is true. Is it really worth driving to High Point? Are the deals really that much better? I'm looking for recommendations on where to go there as well. We are mostly looking for bedroom furniture, but also possibly new family room furniture as well. So who has been there and has the scoop for me? :)

My boss just went there a few weeks ago and he was shocked and the great deals and the quality - said it was definitely worth the trip and delivery was a breeze too - will check with him and find out the names where he went.

Heres something else to do to, my mom found this out when she came down and went to High Point to furniture shop a few years ago. All those places out there can order almost anything at better prices than a showroom locally. Even if you don't see it on their showroom area, ask ask ask. So if you've seen something here that you like, keep notes of the manufacturer and a item or model# and a description of the fabric you liked.

    Thanks for the tips!

Kaci - if you can find out where he went that would be awesome! I wasn't sure if you just drive to the town and there are furniture stores everywhere, or if there was a certain area you have to go to.

I'm excited about the prospect of finding some really good deals!!

Definitely worth the trip. www.furniturelandsouth.com is a good place to start - you can't believe how big that place is - worth a trip just to see what seems like all the furniture in the world. It's a good way to compare a lot of furniture at once.

Plenty of other outlets and dealers there also, with some great deals available.

We bought our king bedroom suite at Furnitureland South a couple years back and got an incredible deal on it in August. They do an "Awesome August" sale to move inventory before the fall market lines come in. Got 40% off a 9 piece solid wood Kincaid suite.
Just an FYI on them though...unless policy has changed, you can not use a credit card to pay except their own card which is was at 24% APR at the time. We had to pay by cashier's check, meaning we had to have the cash...at time of purchase. Also, we had to wait 6-9weeks for delivery, which was fine by us. It is that way with a lot of the furniture in High Point b/c so much of it is custom or not kept in warehouses. But it is worth it for the enormous selection in my opinion!

Sadly the once thriving furniture industry in that part of the state is going overseas like everything else.

a major 2 tumbs up for FurnitureLand South!!!

go around here see what you want, get loads of info, style, brand, best price etc....then BUY on-line from FLS.

yes, it's a CASH deal, they pick up what you want direct from the factory & deliver it to your ROOM, not your door, into your home up 2 flights of stairs, & set it all up!!!

How do you find prices on the website?

I don't think they list them. We tried the web shopping route and called them on a few pieces before our trip. THey didn't seem to like it though without us being assigned a sales rep. Once we visited and got assigned to someone, we just called her for all our questions. Her name was Olga and she was super nice! Also, I don't think they have anywhere near their whole inventory on the web.

What are their delivery charges like? I was concerned that as far away as they are, the delivery charge might wipe out much of the savings.

When we were there in 2005, we lived in Holly Springs which BARELY fell within their 80 mile radius for a flat fee of $50 for delivery. We were astounded it was so cheap and that could have definitely changed by now. Beyond the 80 mile range, they have "zones" set all across the U.S. with a price range per pound of furniture:shock: And I want to say the range was .35-.75/pound depending on how close to High Point you are. When you're talking solid wood furniture, yeah, it can certainly change your experience!
I would still pay for their delivery service though just to make sure you don't get held with any damages and have problems exchanging. One of our night stands was delivered with a crack in the top and the delivery folks just loaded it back up, called the office to note it and we had a replacement, delivered again for FREE, 3 weeks later with no questions asked. I can imagine we'd have had problems had we picked it up ourselves and found the crack as we unpacked things ourselves.

If you can wait a week the Spring Pre-Market show is March 23-24. At the end of the show they sell many of the floor items to local clearance retailers. Those items hit the floor about 3 days after the show and are priced very low. A large portion of those items are accessories but some of the new model furniture is available. Market Show

You can also do it by phone. We looked at our model choices locally and bought over the phone. Pick out what you want, list the Manufacturer and model numbers on paper and shop them over the phone with all of the High point stores. Don't be afraid to tell the ones you call what the last guy gave you for a price. Some have great deals on delivery & setup. Just make one of the larger stores your last call. High Point Chamber of Commerce site for info:High Point CoC

With the current market I'd bet you could price by phone and take those numbers locally and they would match the price.

PS: Check the Hickory & Morganton NC Chamber of commerce site also. It's the place to go if you're looking for hardwood furniture. Also look in the Lexington NC area. The factory there sells overstock to local stores.
