My family just returned from a camping trip to Jellystone Park in Tabor City, NC. This was our first visit but very positive. Wanted to recommend it to any of you who are looking for a close get away. Took us about 2 hours from the 40/42 area. We found the place very clean, well maintained, had pool, splash zone, arcade as well as activities for the kids. Our youngest loved the character meet and greets with Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. Also, several stocked ponds where you could "catch and release". My kids caught several catfish much to their delight. For an extra charge, you could take advantage of a waterslide and water wars area. This place seemed to be somewhat of a secret as we made our reservations Friday morning and got a prime spot next to the pool. Several empty spots. Also had several cabins.
Do a web search and check out the place the next time you are looking for a close, family friendly camping experience.

Oh, yes. Our family camps there several times a year since it's been open. The Coleman's are very nice people. They add new things every year to do for fun...although that makes the price go up every year too.:(

I looked at the website and it talks about the price, but what is included? How much extra is the water slides/water war? Do the yurts have power? If we go in the fall is there still things to do, even without swimming?

I've never been to this jellystone, but we've been to 3 or 4, and always wondered how this one was. Went to one in TN, and it was horrible, but went to 2 in PA and loved them both! Seems like there was another one that we didn't care for, but can't remember where that one was. So they are definitely all different, depends on who runs them. The one in TN, the couple running it was older, and they didn't have anything scheduled all day for the kids to do at all, I've never seen anything like it before, and they weren't friendly or outgoing at all. We'll have to try this one sometime...

The water slide and water wars area was an extra 10 bucks which we thought was a little bit steep. Aside from that though, everything else was included. They had movie night on Friday night, a couple of hayrides on Saturday, activities for the kids all during the day, karoke on Saturday night. The "extras" we encountered on Saturday was for the craft that my kids chose to do ( 3.50 a piece ). they also had gem mining for the kids and that was extra but we were able to steer clear of this. They had monster truck rides and they were $5 a person. So, yes, there were extra charges which I really wasn't crazy about but overall, our experience was positive. they apparently have an activities coordinator so things are planned. I don't know about the cabins or yurts. Guess you could call and find out more details. I know for the summer, they have an activities calendar you can view on line. Not sure if this goes into the fall or not.

Bystander - did you RV or tent camp? What did the tent area look like. I am looking at tent camping the end of September. We went to Jordan Lake last year and this might be a fun alternative.

We have a little travel trailer.
I did see the tent camping area. It was in a wooded area. Looked like they had all of the tent camping together. Had a squared off area where you could set up your tent, a couple of poles where you could hang things, an outdoor grill and picnic table. Also had a bathhouse close in the area. Very shaded area.

we stayed here back in March before the water slide was done. had a positive experience-the people are very friendly and everything is clean. I am disappointed to hear that you have to pay extra for the water area though-o-well. The tent area looked pretty good and had it's own bathhouse. We have a travel trailer and it was nice to have a pull through site-much easier. They have "buddy" sites that look cool if you and another family want to go camping together. It's only about 45 minutes to Myrtle beach from there...

Hmmm...sensing some fellow "campers" here. We have a travel trailer and camp quite a bit. Wish we could find some fellow campers since camping with others is more fun. I'm thinking a 40/42 camping group????? As for great campgrounds, we also like White Oak Shores in Stella NC. It's about 8 miles to the bridge over to Emerald Isle. They have a website www.whiteoakshores.com. They are only about 3 years old but a very clean, spacious park. No cabins but large sites for RV's, pop ups and tents. They have a pool with a waterslide for the kiddies and do have some activities from time to time.

I looked at White Oak's website a couple weeks ago. I thought it looked very nice. We are avid campers and want to fit it in our schedule. We go for long weekends just about every other or every weekend while school's out. Matter of fact just returned a couple hours ago from a trip to the lake. There's nothing like it!!! :)

we are camping lovers too but we still do the tent thing since most of our camping in on the beach and it is the only thing allowed, would love to meet other campers and try new places.

    Great to hear

we've camped at a couple of the yogi jellystone camprounds in upstate Ny.....we just sold our new camper for the $$$ but plan on getting another one once we settle down there in NC....

I'm really glad that I can get some good input on the campgrounds there....they usually have great activities for the kids to keep them busy all day long and the pools are a huge hit.....we stayed at one for atleast 5 hours one day and my husband is not the sit in the sun type of guy....

I'd love to hear of other campgrounds anyone else can recommend since we are true campers.....(the domesticated type) in the 30' plus with all the amenities type..lol....but love it.....that is our vacation every year all summer.....except this summer.....so I look forward to moving so we can get our new camper and start our adventures there.....

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and shared your experience.....

enjoy the rest of the summer

We enjoyed our time at the Shallote, NC KOA. It doesn't have all the activities as some of the campgrounds, but it was a very nice time. It has a pool, a pond to fish and a small playground. It is 30 minutes to Myrtle Beach and close to other beaches as well. The people were really nice and the campground was kept clean, quiet and felt safe.
