Anyone else had problems with the CarFix folks? We took our car there for an alignment & rotation...they couldn't align it due to a broken part which they couldn't get, and said to take it to the dealer. We took it to the dealer and they said the last people that aligned it (CarFix under old management) damaged it to the tune of $800. Tried to get them to pay for it but no dice. They did offer free labor if I bought the $400 part but I don't trust them anymore, and why should I pay for something they broke in the first place? I know it was under the previous owner, but the mechanics were retained, and in my opinion when you buy a place, you buy its customers, and its liabilities...

I am finished with those guys and just wanted to warn everyone else who goes there.

I would welcome a response - they were supposed to call back and have left me hanging....too long. Obviously they don't care that much. I have the same opinion of the dealers, but am going elsewhere to get what work I need done.

Not necessarily a problem but we did take our business elsewhere as well.

They've always done right by us. Never had a problem, never felt overcharged.

For really good alignment service, go to Massey's in Selma.

I have been taking my vehicles to Evans Tire in Smithfield for over 10 years. They are honest, reliable and go out of their way as far as customer service goes. I have never had a problem there. 934-6133

    Carfix Problems...

    Hello everyone,

Sorry for the slow response, I haven't been on 4042 in a little while.

I'd like to say that Flip has been a customer from well before the time Carfix arrived in the area. I appreciate his business over the last year and a half. I'm also sorry that this didn't come to an end that was fair/equitable to both sides.

I guess the best way to start is to recounting the experience from our end: The previous business (Carolina Tire and Service) last aligned Flip's car in October of 2005 when the car has 70,102 miles.

On July 9th Flip brought his car in for an alignmet and our technician found that the right rear camber adjuster washer was bent in a manner that prevented him from adjusting the setting properly. It should be noted that the only technician retained from the days of Carolina Tire is not an alignment technicianAt this time the car had just over 112,000 miles. We let Flip know the situation and began the process of trying to get a replacement part from the dealer.

If any of you have experience with a Hyundai parts department you will know how difficult it can be to find a knowledgable parts person to help you. Long story short, over a period of nearly a month we had three different special order parts delivered that were ALL wrong!

Eventually we reached our wits end and decided that maybe they could get the right part if they were actually looking at the car. We clearly marked wth yellow wax pen all over the part that needed to be replaced...this is a very small part, essentially a washer with tabs on it to allow for adjusment. I was expecting it to cost (even from the dealer) no more than 5-10 dollars.

Flip took his car the the Hyundai dealer and they promptly placed the blame on the last person to do the alignment. I feel very strongly that this was totally incorrect (but sadly not a surprise). After placing blame the dealer then informed him that he needed the entire control arm assembly replaced with a cost of ~$800! Unfortunately this little part is not something I could run out to the local parts store and pick up. I'm at the mercy of their questionable (in my opinion) diagnosis.

Flip called Carfix and made it clear that he expected us to cover the cost of this repair. I understand his frustration, and were our situations reversed - I suspect I may feel the same way.

This is the point where I have to make the case for Carfix. When we bought the business from Carolina Tire we did inherit their customers/liabilities. Carolina Tire had a 12 month/12000 miles (whichever comes first) warranty, and Carfix honored that warranty across the board. Carfix now offers a warranty of 30 months/30000 miles (whichever comes first). There had been a 42,000 mile gap between the Carolina Tire alignment and the Carfix visit in which we checked the alignment and found the bent camber washer.

Here are the points I had to weigh in making my decision:
    1. Carfix did not cause the problem.
    2. Noone employed by Carfix caused the problem
    3. The part replacement recommended by the dealer was questionalbe at best.
    4. Flip is a good, long time customer.
    5. Flip has done nothing wrong, its not his fault, he shouldn't get stuck with the bill.
    6. Carfix has done nothing wrong either.

I came to the conclusion that I would perform the repair and cover labor for control arm replacement, as well as the alignment at no charge if Flip covered the cost of the part. This equated to a 50/50 split of the costs. I made this decision mostly because Flip was a good customer who had been put in a bad situation through no fault of his own. I couldn't stomach the entire $800 expense, but I was offering to do what I could.

Flip didn't see this as adequate and decided to take his business elsewhere. I'm sorry it came to this Flip, as I truely appreciated your regular business. I hope you can understand my side of the situation.

Someone else has recommended Evan's as an option for service. Tim is a great guy, honest, and fairly priced, I totally second that advice.

I hope this cleared things up a bit and wasn't TOO long winded.

    Have a great day!

Don Lee Tire in Raleigh by Wake Med. Maybe a little out of the way, but DEF. worth it. They won't stop until it's perfect according to you and them.
