Ok we are looking at going to one or the other. Have been to Kings Dominion, but never Carowinds. I have looked at both on-line and see they are pretty much similar. But if anyone has any personal experiance, please tell me which one you prefer and why.

Oh yeah, it will be a trip with adults and teen boys.

Busch Gardens is the best, for sure. But since its not in the running, I pick KD...I have been to all three. There really isn't much difference at all in the 2, seriously. And them teenage boys won't care one way or the other.

Yeah, Kellbell the boys could care less. No doubt about that. I would much rather go to Busch Gardens as well, however the rest of the group wants to do one of the others. I think we are taking an adult trip later to do the entire Williamsburg thing. Really looking forward to that.

I tell ya, there isnt enough difference in Carowinds vs. KD...the drive is nearly the same, cost, rides, etc. Either will be fun for all!!

I think it will be Kings Dominion again. Yes, the volcano roller coster was stomach dropping to say the least, but so much fun. Thanks for all the input

We've been to both many times--season pass holders for several years--and both are great, I think I like KD a little better, but if you are going at this time of year you might keep in mind that oftentimes Virginia is in a colder weather pattern than Charlotte. Might be a difference of 15 degrees or so.

RCARP, You said you were going to decide on KD, however, I just got some coupons here at work if you decide on Carowinds. Just PM me.!!!

Same here. Kings Dominion is overrated. You will wait FOREVER to get on rides. They even have signs that say "Only 45 minutes from this point. Yay" Go to Bush Gardens, MUCH more fun, better rides, more to see/do.

There are certain times of the year where there really are virtually no lines, like October. Some early spring but stay away from holiday weekends like Easter when everyone's children are out of school. Sunday mornings are also really good for no lines until the church crowds start coming in around 12noon.

I was wondering how the whole waterpark/amusement park thing worked. For anyone that may know... are we supposed to wear bathing suits as we travel around the amusement park? thanks!

Most places you go you can rent lockers and change clothes when you go to the water park, we just got back from Carowinds and it was alright but they had a few rides ds couldn't ride because of height restrictions..

    Have fun at KD

Many people do wear their bathing suits in the park, with a swim cover or shorts over, but you can rent a locker, or just bring a small back pack with suits/towels and carry with you, or you can go back out to your car to get your stuff later in the day....they will just stamp your hand so you can get back in...At Carowinds the water park is located closer to the back entrance than the front one so if you're going to leave stuff in the car I would park back there if possible.
