I need a couple of pairs of cheap eclipse shades for my kids. Any local stores?

I have two, $100 :) they are Rainbow Symphony, approved by NASA and ISO rated. Not counterfeit.

Would that be the clayton library? Are they for sale there?

I bought a dozen pairs but friends and family got them all. I should have waited to sell them for $75.00 each ;) :D

Very good deal on them late tomorrow afternoon though.

They gave them away at the Durham library and I don't know if they have more. Call the different libraries to see if they have them

Some of the glasses in Raleigh were recalled from the park or library. I forget which. Be careful! I've welded for over 25 years. burning your eyes is a day and a half of torture, not to mention possible permanent damage. I expect eye doctor visits to be the next big news story!

How cheap can you get welding shields for? Do they make any kind of welding goggles?

Do not, I repeat do not use welding shields to view the eclipse. Not dark enough (typically) and uv issues

The #14 will work, but most are only #13 unless specially purchased.

BS hught. Iv'e seen 2 eclipses through welding helmets. No problems.

If your shield don't go to 14, stay away from harbor freight.

If you don't know what you got, don't look. Also, don't weld.

I'm still betting on burnt eye news on Tuesday. Up until the mid 80's, doctors would give you saline solution with cocaine. That would numb you up enough to get by.

My mother told me they used to use old film negatives. Not many people have these anymore.

Many of the self darkening only go to #13 from any vendor. Unless you have replaced it the lens is most likely not 14 out of the box.
