I was reading on carolinaweeklynews.com about a large valve stem recall. Actually, I had heard a bit of something about a recall awhile back but didn't think that much of it. After reading more about it and then going to the NHTSA site, I decided to go take a look at my tires. One of my tires has one that is developing some bad cracks!! I'm going to see about getting it fixed ASAP. This is pretty serious with 6 million of these recalled. You may want to check your tires tomorrow and make sure you don't have any of these valve stems.

I saw this on WRAL. In order to inspect them, bend them and look for cracks. The only other way is to remove the tire fromt he rim and check the number on inside of the stem. If yours has cracks, get 'em replaced by your local mechanic.

I've had two go bad in the last 6 months. And, of course, I'm probably out any refund or compensation for it.

    Valve Stems..

There are only a few major tire product distributors in the area - the morning after NBC aired a report about valve stem recalls I contacted the three that I use and none of them buy from the recall supplier. I can't coment on ALL suppliers, but I suspect that the large majority of local auto businesses have not been using valve stems affected by the recall.

There may be some shops in the area that use mail order supplies from overseas companies, but I know of none in the 4042 area.

Hope this sets a few minds at ease.
