Cult would be a better way to describe them as well as freakin nuts.

That would give a bad name to legitimate cults. I'll agree with you on the freakin nuts, though.

I haven't really done that much research on this church, but I notice they have baptist in their name. I wonder if they have any official denominational affliation with a baptist organization? I couldn't imagine a upstanding, fundamental denomination backing Westboro.

Now, I freely state that I believe that the Bible does, in fact, make a stand against the homosexual lifestyle and I do not condone it either. However, these people are not, in my belief true Christians. They seem to be hatemongers and likely hypocrites noticing the mote without first removing the beam. A funeral is not the place for this type of message, especially against soldiers who are defending this country and most are not even homosexuals themselves.

What makes a religion or cult Christian? A belief that Jesus of Nazareth died for your sins? Hell by that definition I would be a Cristian. Or that he arose and will come back? The Mormons believe that and consider themselves Christian but many non Mormons do not consider them as such.

A Christian is one who follows (ie; lives their life by) the teachings of Christ.

Of course, by that definition, many who claim to be Christian are not.

Its sad too, they bring children in to do the protesting as well.

Maybe when they get older, they will truly understand how twisted those folks really are.

    YES!!!
I saw a couple of videos with her on it on CNN. My mouth dropped open. I just can't believe it. They are going for shock value, and they got it.

The solder's father has created a website with full information on the story, www.matthewsnyder.org Since the crazy people are going to appeal the case, he said that he's not sure how he is going to be able to afford future court costs. They are accepting donations on the site if anyone is interested.

My heart really goes out to the Snyder family and other familes affected by these loonies.

I would certainly agree with your definition for an individual. But for a Religion/Cult?

Same thing. If the group follows the teachings of Christ, they are Christian.

I am sure that Westboro feels they are following the teachings of Jesus, so in their minds they are Christians?

Per your definition, I have not seen many Christians during my life. Typically those that I thought met the criteria often times questioned their own Christianity.

Believing something and actually doing something are two different things.

al Qaeda believe they are following the teachings of Mohammad, but they aren't.

No doubt. Most "religious" people tend to read what they want in the Bible and dismiss those that they feel don't suit them as only pertaining to ancient history.

This is the official web site of Westboro Baptist Church. I can assure you they do no not worship the same Christ that I believe in.

A true Christian is one you can tell by the fruits of their works and their heart. A "religious" person tends to go only by what they want people to SEE in them. You can be the most ceremonial, staunch, uptight, religious person in the world and be so far from God that you may never see him. It all is in the relationship with God, not the "style" of how you portray yourself to be high and mighty. You will never see true Christians when they go in their prayer closet and are on their knees praying for someone or something. True Christians don't go around saying, "Look at me!! Look at what I've done!". There isn't anything "Christian" about that.

You want to see a true Christian? Then look into the HEART. Christians go through all the same "Bull" eveyone does. They are not perfect. If they were EVERYBODY would be a Christian so they could be perfect. Quit looking at the outside and start seeing a person on the inside. Then line up their works with God's word and see how they really stand and you will know how true a Christian they may be. Everyone says ALOT of things about Christians or say that there aren't any real ones. Well if you stop looking at the SURFACE of people and really look down deep into the spirit, soul and heart, you may just learn something about them and about yourself.

Joyce Meyer said something about Christians the other day on her program. She said, "Just because you say your a Christian doesn't make you one. Your attitude, your relationship with God, your heart being right with God and the fruits of your works are what makes you one. I mean, just because you go sit in the garage, that doesn't make you a car, now does it????"

I am not kidding myself, I do not do everything I can or should as a member of this planet, however a previous member stated that you will not be accepted into "heaven" unless you accept Jesus as your personal savior. I did not see this really mentioned in any of this.

Jesus is the way. You are too accept his ways, aspire to be like him. Dark, evil people do not go to "heaven".

Yes, you must accept Jesus as your personal savior. But that is not all there is. You have to work on that relationship just like you would any relationship. You can't just say, "Ok. I accepted Jesus and now I'm home free!!! Let's go have a party, get drunk and have an orgy." While I do realize that is not what you said or meant, there are those that think that all you have to do is accept Jesus and that is it. There is a life style and a relationship there you must maintain. No, it's not easy....shoot...if it was the whole place would do it. That's where you get the ones who make the bible and Christianity what THEY want it to be and use it to THEIR advantage. They make it hard for the true followers of the Christian faith. Unfortunately, in this world, we are all about what we "see", whether it be in "beauty", faith, sex or anything. That's why people need to be looked at for the inner being. The outer is ok, but it WON'T go with you to heaven. It goes back to the dust it came from.
