As a part of North Carolina’s “History Happens Here”, a year-long celebration of the state’s history, this weekend the 26th N.C. State Troops, the 6th N.C. State Troops and the 1st N.C. Artillery will hold a Living History/ Civil War encampment at the N.C. Capitol. The period Confederate camp will offer a glimpse of the soldiers’ life during the Civil War. There will be company/battalion drills, various talks, and observances of North Carolina’s secession 146 years ago. Also the original North Carolina Ordinance of Secession (on loan form the State Archives) will be on display in the House chamber and Civil War artist Mort Kunstler will be at the N.C. Museum of History on Saturday from 12:00 until 4:00

Saturday's schedule consists of raising the colors over the Capitol at 8:00, followed by company and battalion drills, and after lunch, there will be uniform talks at 1:00, flag talks at 1:30, artillery talks at 2:00, a drum & fife concert at 2:30 and civilian talks at 3:00. Sunday’s schedule consists of a battalion ceremony at Oakwood cemetery (7:30-9:00), more drilling, and following lunch, the reading of the Ordinance of Secession at 1:15, and at 1:30, a recreation of Stephen D. Ramsuer’s firing on the Capitol Square. Visitors will be free to walk around the camp at any time Saturday or Sunday.

I've never been to the Capitol encampment before, but I have been to Bentonville during a full blown reactment. Very impressive and historically fascinating. My father in law participated in the 26th reenactments several years ago.
