The Clayton Chamber of Commerce is organizing it. They always do a superb job. It is also one of the parades that has the largest attendance around. Let's give a hand to their executive director, Sally S. for doing an excellent job each year.
My lasting memory of the parade was marching in it in band. I played the "quads" in the percussion section. Now this is or was, I haven't been since I marched in it, A LONG PARADE. So here I am with these four drums hanging on the front of me and smartarse kids threw change down onto my drum heads just to be arses. By the time we got to the end I had busted two of my drum heads from it being so cold and me beating the crap out of them. We also marched in that same day at the Four Oaks and Micro Christmas parades. The only parade I gave a crap about was the Kenly Christmas Parade. At that time it was the only night parade. It rocked.
Stand on the other side of the street this year. Join us back here after the parade and we'll talk about all the freaks we saw ...you know the people standing in front of little kids, or blowing smoke and hacking on the people around them, or the occasional drunk that gets a little too excited about the Helping Hand Mission, the gangsta wannabes who bring their man-eating dogs with them, the redneck family who argues loudly during the entire parade while ignoring their snot-nosed kids... ...Its a great show! I wouldn't miss it for the world!
Not to mention the big trucks and things IN the parade with man testicles hanging down in the back. Had a fun time splaining that to 8yo DS a few years ago!!
:ack: I remember that too, the last time we went dh almost got in a fight because of some punk kids..
I saw some of those the other day on a truck. Hate 'em and still think someone is over-compensating. :jester:
The very definition of rudeness. They put them on simply because, and for no other reason than, they know that some find it offensive.
Oh, I agree with you there. It's childish, and I wouldn't give the idiot the satisfaction of any reaction whatsoever. He also had some highly offensive bumper stickers, it was a Dodge truck and they said something along the lines of eating Chevy's and #$%^&*(^$% Fords........................Classy I tell ya! I have a Dodge, and while I may agree with the sentiment, I wouldn't actually put it on my truck, LOL. :jester:
