    Hey all!

It's been a while since I wrote on this board, but now that the big move to Clayton is coming up in 5 months, I thought I should get better with checking in on Johnston county happenings!

My fiance and I just came back from a trip to Clayton. We were able to meet with our real estate agent and our mortgage lender so the wheels are in motion!

While on our trip we started to make our No/Maybe/Yes lists on different neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods really stood out to us while others were not our taste. A few neighborhoods we liked included:

Little Creek Farms (off little creek church rd)
Trent Woods (down the road from little creek farms)
    Clayton Pointe
    Brookhill Estates

Does anyone live in these neighborhoods or have any information concerning these neighborhoods?

For the most part, we are trying to find a house outside of city limits (because of lower taxes) but we would not be opposed to a great neighborhood within city limits. We are looking for a house under 200,000 with at least three bedrooms (and a bonus room) and at least a half acre of land.

I'm really excited for our next trip out there (March) and then the big push to find a home (May/June) so any information would be great!

    Thanks all!

What type of job are you looking for? You might want to get things lined up before you move...we moved once when my husband had been promised a job, but he hadn't signed the contract before we moved. The company announced it was moving production to Mexico the day before he was to sign the contract, so no job! Also, you might look towards this area (4042), rather than the areas right around Clayton. Those areas are more likely to be annexed first and you'll end up with city taxes.

I'm looking for a job in the school systems. I'll start putting applications out as soon as jobs open, but last year many jobs did not open until June or July. If that does not work, I'll look at community counseling agencies, counseling services, or detention services in the area.

I'd love to line up a job now. Unfortunately, sometimes the schools do not open jobs until the summer.

    Thanks for the advice!

Welcome! Hope you have an uneventful move.

Johnston Co. Mental Health Center in Smithfield has openings. If you're interested, call (919) 989-5500. I know there are positions that require a license (LCSW, LPC, or LPA). There may also be case mgmt. positions, which do not require a license.

Check out the school system website for info on the job fair. It's a great opportunity to meet the principals. Also, keep checking the vacancies website.

JCS utilizes the online application process through the NC DPI website, so you might want to go ahead and get that "chore" out of the way!

    All Children,

I will def. have to get that out of the way, thanks! I've been keeping an eye on the Johnston County website. So far, not too many opens. However, I'll keep checking back!

    Snuff,

Thanks! I do not have my LPC yet. I'm graduating in May but I'll have my master's and at the time I will have already taken the NCE exam. I will give them a call!

    ServerSnapper,

Yes and no. Yes, I grew up in the north. However, I've lived in the south for 6 years and plan to stay down here. So, if you ask people back home, I'm southern and if you ask people here I'm northern.

However, that would never make you be cold to me, now would it neighbor? 8)

    hehe

I'd recommend looking for a home in or near Clayton. It's a progressive Town with small town atmosphere and great municipal services. The tax rate is relatively low, but you may have a problem finding a home on a big lot for under $200K.

    Welcome to the area.

    Thanks for the welcome Observer!

Right now, we're looking both inside, and just outside, city limits. We've found quite a few houses with a good sized yard in our price range, but I agree that there are many more in the 200,000-300,000 price range. Unfortunately, for a first house, we will have to stay below 200,000!

It's true that alot more jobs are open as the year comes to a close, however, Johnston County Schools Webpage posts vacancies year round, as well as hiring year round....here is the 'vacancy' link for you.....

I do check weekly. Unfortunately, there are not any postings for the job I want!

    Thanks though!

    Hey!
Saw your post on the other board as well. Welcome!!! :)

Your best bet is just to come down and drive around. We looked at three subdivisions before buying our house. Sometimes you just "know" when you found your new home! :)

    Good luck!

Don't forget that one aspect of living in the Clayton town limits is that you will buy your electricity from the town, instead of directly from a power company. It is my understanding that the electric rates within Clayton town limits are a fair bit higher than surrounding areas where the power company sells power directly to the customer. Something to look into anyway.

Yes, Electricity rates served by the town are quite a bit higher, but no, not all sub-divisions inside the city limits are served by them. If it's an issue, be sure to ask your realtor.

    Also, Welcome to C-Town!!!
