Hi, me and my husband are relocating to Clayton from Cary hopefully and we have seen mostly the E Clayton areas - Flowers etc. We hve not been to the Cleveland area yet but are hearing good things. an someone be specific as to the pros of this area. Also, are there good builders there, newer neighborhoods in range of 250k. Can you compare the areas E vs. Cleveland?

    Sushine ,

We are in the process of building a house in Swift Creek Subdivision. Blackmon Homes is our builder. If you like you can go down Cleveland road go past C3 Church and the subdivision is about 2 miles up on the left. Turn in and go towards the end of the road and the houses are on the right. I have attached a website for more info.

They are building the new high school on Polenta Rd. That's not even five minutes from the area the previous post was referring to. You're 25-30 minutes from Crabtree Mall and the same with Triangle Town Center. You're 40-45 minutes depending on the time of day from RDU. You can get to the White Oak Shopping Center fairly quickly if not quicker than you can from E. Clayton.

    There's my two cents.

Do you have kids, and if so, how old? We moved here from Wake County when my son started K, just because the schools are so great! And I like having a few conveniences, without all the traffic and congestion. (I know people are getting ready to comment on that one...) After visiting Cary, North Raleigh areas a time or two, I'm always happy to come back to my neck of the woods!

    Thanks

Thanks everyone, I have a daughter 7 in 2nd grade and son 4, will not enter K until year after next. I have visited the area about 5 times, ate at the pizza place on 70 and talked with neighbors in Mill Creek West and Plantation Pointe. Met one couple at the local playground that was from Cleveland and they said they like it. My neighbor is a realtor and she said she likes the Cleveland area too. She used to live in Garner. I have been in Cary only one year, from Orlando 8yrs, Boston born. I love the country feel of Clayton, the lower taxes outside the city limit, the schools I have read are excellent, great house for the money, people friendly. I think Cary may be overrated, yes it has shopping and good restaurants, but with economy, who wants to spend now anyway. We seriously want to drop our mortgage down and love Clayton. Visited Knightdale, FV, HS, Wake Forest etc. no savings there vs. Cary and we just about gave up until we read about Clayton, drove out there expecting to be disappointed and were so happily surprised. My hubby works in downtown Raleigh so commute should be same. So far we've been downtown Clayton, drove thru many neighborhoods, by the schools, walked on trails and in the forest and went to playgrounds and tried mixing with the people living there to get their input so I have not heard many negatives about Clayton besides the location and maybe traffic. Did I miss anything?

Can't speak about E. Clayton. We lived in Cary for 18 years and moved out here off of Josephine/Cornwallis Rd area two years ago. My wife commutes to N. Raleigh every morning. It took her 25-30 minutes from Cary and the same out here. The difference is that we have a 1/2 ac lot vs a 1/4 and a brand new home for the same price as the twenty year old one we sold in Cary.

One of the major things I was looking for was a new home in a tract that had sewer hook ups versus septic. We found that in the Island Creek Subdivision. Been very happy here. There's an occasional jerk on the rd but nothing like Wake County.

I still find it funny when my daughter talks about going to town when she goes to the Raleigh area.

You'll enjoy the Cleveland area, great place, great people and great value.:hurray:

    Hi Igb0250

Hi, what can you tell me about Island Creek. Does it have a pool. Lots of kids playing outside, it has a Garner address - but is it Clayton? The homes online look nice. Thanks

We live in one of the communities you mentioned in your post and absolutely love it. We chose our neighborhood because we wanted our children to grow up with children their age. I can tell you there are 10 starting kindergarten next year and 11 the following year. There are great young families here and we have a great sense of community. If you would like to know more specifics, please PM me.

I live in Island Creek myself and love it out here.. Lot of young kids and friendly people for the most part. The only thing I don't like about it is I wish the developer would have made a clubhouse with a pool. Guess they figure out if would be benefiicial financially with homes under 300k

:iagree: They have not made enough improvements to the roads in the 40-42 area, and the roads are very strained trying to handle the amount of traffic at rush hour.

I am in between the Cleveland/McGees Area and love it! I avoid the other side of Clayton at all costs due to Hwy 70, but they do have good shopping! Good Luck with your move and let me know if I can be of any assistance!

FYI, just so you know, since the Cleveland area is unincorporated there are quite a lot of neighborhoods that have a Garner address, some with a Clayton address and some with a Smithfield address, it all goes to which post office the home is closest too, but we all consider ourselves the Cleveland Community and hopefully one day will have our own name and Post Office. You will love it down here and on a second note - Yea Red Sox:lol:

It's a great place to raise a family, especially if you're part of SUR13. If not, your kids soon will be so it's no big deal.

Cakeprincess, thanks for the info. I was from Winter Garden FL - outside Orlando before I came here. Loving NC. Can't wait to check out Cleveland.

Space Cowboy - what is SUR13?
