Clayton — After seven years on the road, Matt Mayle wanted to settle down without giving up stand-up comedy. His solution was Laugh Out Loud, or LOL, a comedy club that will open this month in Southern Village on U.S. 70 just east of town.
Mayle and his wife, Tonya, said their club would host comedians who have appeared on HBO, Comedy Central and Showtime. Comedians will perform Thursday through Sunday nights. Admission will range from $6 to $10, although some well-known performers might cost a little more.

“It is not an opportunity to beat everybody’s wallet to death,” Mayle said. “The last thing we want is someone to walk in and say, ‘It is a little pricey’ or ‘a little much,’ so we are trying to keep the prices as low as possible.”

Shows will be rated similar to movies, Mayle said. “We are going to lean toward the cleaner side,” he said. “There will be no filthy comedy.”

In addition to laughter, LOL will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. The menu will offer chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, nachos, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads and soups. Diners can enjoy 40-inch televisions, leather couches with ottomans and a 6-foot, 210-gallon saltwater aquarium that used to sit in the Mayles’ home.

LOL hopes to open next week. “We want everybody to be excited about the place,” Mayle said.

Southern Village has filled up quickly, with just three of 20 storefronts vacant. Jim Lee, a partner in Walthom Group, said construction of 20 more storefronts would begin soon.

Later this month, Bobby Reynolds of Buies Creek will open a Sears store stocked with appliances, tools and lawnmowers.

“I grew up with the Sears name, and they stand behind the quality of their products,” Reynolds said. “I thought it was a great opportunity. We are getting excited about it.”

I hope the Comedy Club is good. Maybe the JoCo nightlife is livening up.

It will be neat to stop for a bite to eat and see a show. $6 ain't too bad to get in for a short while.

LOL Comedy Club

I don't know why they said, " after seven years on the road" they ran The Mustang Ranch strip club in Selma for the past 10 years.
