Schools Continue Katrina Relief, Remember Victims of 9/11

SMITHFIELD-- When students arrived at Smithfield-Selma High School
this morning, they participated in a memorial service for the victims of
9/11, the anniversary of which is Sunday.

Principal Patrick Jacobs said the service included remarks from the
school's SRO, who was in Manhattan at the time of the attack.

"It is only fitting that we take time to pause and remember such an
    unforgettable tragedy," said Jacobs.

At South Johnston High School, the ROTC students led a fundraiser that
has already netted $1,000 for Katrina relief. They will present a check
to the American Red Cross on Monday, September 12 at 10 a.m.
