ABCNews has an article that talks about "Going Out Of Business" sales, citing specifically "Linens-n-Things" and "Circuit City". It's a good read, and pretty short. I'm sure it's nothing more than y'all have already suspected, but this confirms your suspicions.
and speaking of.....I know alot of people got that email with a whole list of people 'supposedly' going out of business, and indicating to "use gift cards by the end of the year", some were true, some not....I mean who knows.....thought I'd pass it along...... To our valued customers: It has come to our attention that misleading information is circulating via email as part of a hoax intended to discourage consumers from buying gift cards from a number of retailers including Eddie Bauer. We want to set the record straight. Eddie Bauer has been in business since 1920 and operates 376 retail stores throughout North America. We also have a robust online and catalog division. In our March 2008 annual report, we announced both the opening of new locations as well as the closing of some older locations as part of our normal course of business. The stores referenced were all closed in January 2008. In 2009, we will again open and close a handful of stores as part of our normal business plan. Eddie Bauer remains committed to providing our customers with outstanding quality, value and service, now and for many years to come. Our gift cards are a great option for the holidays. You can purchase and redeem them at any of our retail stores, through our catalogs or at eddiebauer.com. We look forward to serving you this holiday season. Neil Fiske President & CEO Eddie Bauer
FYI... S & K Men's Warehouse is going out of business. We had to go yesterday and buy a suit for a funeral. The one on Timber Dr. is closing. Another is closing in Raleigh and the gentleman in Smithfield said they will be next soon too. No one is buying. Speakingof which... we went to theFactory Outlet Stores in Smithfield to look for a suit, expecting the parkinglot to be jammed packed due to upcoming Holiday shopping season. It was so sad to see no one there and knowing that this is affecting the people working there. The gentleman there said many of the other stores are in the same boat and he suspects many will close this coming year as well. Just saying what I saw while there. Stephanie--mom to 7
ABC's GMA did a piece on this this morning and Gap was another store that is not closing but was on that list. Here's the story that includes info on more stores: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Consumer/story?id=6326045&page=1
When my dh went to the S&K in Garner he said it looked empty, but that they told him they weren't closing that store, but some of the others and items from those stores were being sent to Garner. But who knows, things might have changed in the last few weeks, we were up there prob 3 wks ago. It is sad - esp people losing jobs.
