    Hi guys!

We have a gas fireplace in our house that we built that we never have used, nor have we inserted a blower, etc. It's just the fireplace and logs with the glass front and vents above the glass.

We were considering having it really set up and purchasing the gas to use the fireplace this year, which we haven't used yet just because our kids were little and we wanted to make sure we kept them safe.

Any ideas about what we need to do to convert it? We have the fireplace obviously, but is it economical and what pieces do we really need?

In the long run, it will be cheaper to stay with the gas. If you redo the system, you're supposed to get the permit for it, hire a licensed contractor etc.

The gas fireplace we have heats most of the house, and we use that, instead of paying more to Progress Energy...

    Our 2 cents.

resistance heat "electric" is the least economical source.

we converted a few years ago cause the logs were the only gas item in the house. What we have found nice about the electric is that you can wun the "flame" without having to have the heat for a more romantic ambience.

As for the conversion for us it was easy as the area was already wired for a blower, so I just turned it into an electrical outlet, slide the onlde insert out and new electric insert in and plugged it in.

BTW...this was for a non vented set of gas logs.
