    hey all.

My 3 year old slept thru an "accident" last nite and I didn't know about it until this morning when he got up. I cannot get the smell of pee off the crib mattress that he uses in his toddler bed.

I have wiped it down with Clorox Wipes, used Lysol spray, wiped it down with straight Clorox Bleach and sprayed it with Nature's Miracle and it STILL reeks!!!

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm afraid if I just make it up like normal with the mattress cover, sheets and afghan he uses the smell will still leach through and permeate him and his bedding....

    TIA

My wife said to try feminine deodorant spray, she said that she does that all the time and also sprays the sheets and blankets also. Hope this helps.8)

I used cloth diapers for my kids and found that vinegar was the best to remove pee odor. I know they are both acids so I don't know why one would neutralize the other but it worked for me.

Vinegar is the answer to many of these questions. Please let us know if it works.

    Good luck,

It just needs to air out. Place the mattress outside all day to air out. It will air out better if you can prop it up against something.

I have my son's old one sitting in the garage and it's yours if you can't get the smell out and would like it. Just PM me if you're interested.

Try soaking the mattress with Simple Solutions (can buy it at Petsmart). You have to literally pour it onto the mattress, and then let it dry over a few days but it really works. You place a fan somewhere to blow on it to help it dry, it will probably dry pretty quickly in the dry winter air.

its a crib mattress - it is 35 bucks - i think. buy a new one if possible. scrimp on something else. Kids should always some first - even if we have to eat mac and chesse for a week.

yep, I agree. just get a new one....and get a waterproof pad and put it under the mattress pad...it'll happen again.

I would agree with this...except that the mattress may well have cost much more than $35. Some of the really nice ones are over a hundred...I'd recommend to buy a new one too, but if that isn't going to work out, Simple Solutions is about $20/gallon.
