I added cucamelons to my garden this year for the first time! Had never even heard of the little rascals until I saw this video on one of my Facebook feeds back in early Spring: James Wong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x02CuLPYVdw He hooked me big time with his enthusiasm, so I ordered some seeds, started them in my living room and transplanted them into my raised beds at the end of April. Rachel Ray link: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/roccos-top-foods-2010/ .... fast fwd to the 4:00 minute mark A 3rd link: http://www.verticalgardens.org/cucamelon/ The vines were so delicate to begin with I was wondering if they'd hold up, but boy was I surprised! Once they started growing, they TOOK OFF! Vines loaded down with cucamelons! I eat them while I pick them off, but like them better when chilled in the fridge. Makes'em a little more crisp! Kids love'em! I'm stationed back at the Wake Co. Courthouse now, so when I'm working a Security Station I hand them out to the Judges, DA's, attorneys, office folks, etc. coming in for work and they LOVE THEM!!! I've got them all talking about CUCAMELONS!! Anyway, just thought I'd share. Be sure to add these to your garden next year!! btw, here's where I got my seeds from: http://www.underwoodgardens.com/ ... great company and great customer service
Never seen these before. Growing season? Never mind, just read your third link. I'll try them next year. If I can just keep the squirrels out.
Sorry for the hijack, Kent, but was wondering if you had ever heard of this (Okrumbers) and what do they taste like?: Sherry
I will have to get some for next year.... Any other different items you grow that no one has heard of?
