oddly enough I used to know someone who was a home theater junkie (his words were audiophile) and once bought 24k gold plated speaker wires as he swore up and down he could hear the difference between the gold vs. straight copper.
There is a difference in some high-end things. I used to build high end stereos and I can positively tell you that the sound quality out of an all tube amplifier versus today's circuit board amps is like night and day.
I agree when it comes to tube amps, but to say that a current carriying speaker wire made from 24k plated gold provides better sound than a wire made from straight copper is insane. In sound reproduction it's about the amps, the signal wires and the reproduction devices themselves (ie speakers) not the simple speaker wires that carry ac current to the speakers.
