Okie-dokie, it finally died. We've had our dryer for 10 years and it was a brand new Kenmore. Did it's job but now time to retire--LOL. Okay, so it now doesn't work at all. We had gotten a new Bosch Washer about 1 year ago. Front loader. No problems except w/ the outer ring which I hear many people have toruble w/ w/ all front loaders. Anyhow, now it is time to shop for the new dryer and very, very quickly. You don't let laundry pile up in a house w/ 9 people! Funds are extremely limited due to some unexpected medical expenses as of late. So, I need a phenominal deal on a dryer. Know of any places we can check out tomorrow? I've heard of HGregg or something of that nature in Cary. ARe they worth the drive? Now, we were in total sticker shock w/ the washing machine as you can imagine. 9 years we bought a new washer for around $400 and this past time it was close to $1000! Sticker shock was an understatement. Again, it's been ten years now w/ the dryer so what kind of price do you think we'll be looking at now? I promise not to pass out when I read the results--LOL. Does Lowes really have a low price guarantee on appliances? I've looked on ebay and some other lists and even researched wholesale dealers but nothing. Suggestions on new dryers, please send them my way. Thanks and stay dry folks. Stephanie--mom to 7
Got a pretty good deal on a floor model at Best Buy a few months back when our Maytag died. A lot cheaper than Lowe's.

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=160506-99-MED5740TQ&lpage=none Big... for your HUGE family... relatively inexpensive. Same thing happened to us a few years ago, right before leaving for vacation... while I was getting everything washed for our trip. Not fun!
Thanks everyone! Okay, now prices aren't so scary. We are not going to buy any type of used appliance ever again. We have learned our lessons one too many times on that one--LOL. End up paying more in the end if you have to buy it twice. That, and since our appliances get so much more use than normal, we need to buy something that will definitely last. So, off to Lowes and probably Blackmon's as well. Had never heard of them before now. Thanks. Sad thing is the dryer is dead, washer died last year and so did the dishwasher. Makes sense as you buy them all at the same time in a house. When it rains, it pours..no pun intended for today. I'll have to keep you guys in mind again when I shop for the new heat pump. We've pieced that sucker together for the last 2 years. our neighbors keep telling us it will die any day now. So, next post may be on a heat pump--LOL. NOw, those are some scary prices. Again, thanks for all the dryer tips. We have a family reunion to go to tomorrow. Umm, not going to be the best dressed, that's for sure. I know there's no way we'll have the dryer by tonight and no way you can leave the clothes outside to dry today--LOL. Hey, it's life. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone and thanks so much for all the places we can go. Take care, stephanie--mom to 7
If you don't care about matching appliances you will save if you buy an X large capacity dryer that matches at top loader ranter than one that matches the front loader. They are the same size--just the stores charge more for the ones that match the front loaders. When we looked it was about a $300 difference just to get the older design.
