I called Animal Control on your dog today. I'm REALLY sick of trying to take a walk around the block with my children and have your dog follow me. It is ALWAYS out of your yard roaming the streets. You just let it out and go to work, the store, etc. I know because I've seen it. I even tried to flag you down today as your dog chased you down the street, and you just pretended to not see me. Classy. Another day, I tried to flag down one of your older kids as they left and pointed at the dog hanging out in the street. Your kid just looked at me and shrugged like "What am I supposed to do?" And yet another day, we were walking our dog on a leash (huh - imagine that!) and your dog came out of nowhere and attacked our dog. When I used to work, your dog came very close to getting run over several times. What's wrong with you people? Do you not know there is a leash law? Do you just not care? About others, their property (as I watched your dog take a nice big dump in somebody's yard this am), YOUR DOG? GET A CLUE!!!
Good for you. Did they come get the dog yet? I wish A. C. would get the stupid owners and take them to the shelter.
This needs to be printed in all local newspapers because its a johnston county problem our animal control is just about nonexistent and people know this and let their dogs roam every where .I have had the same problem with neighbors who let their dog run loose ( one dog that is agressive) what did animal control say " we will go out and talk to the neighbors about this and tell them you complained if you catch the dog in a trap we will take it to the pound they will have to pay to get it out." whoopie dooo If I do their job they will take care of the matter. Animal control in johnston county sucks and everyone knows this and figure wtf who cares and do not care about the laws they are not inforced laws.
I dunno, I had to leave a message? I left my number, but no call back yet. I wish they would take the owners too, Harley!
We have had good luck with JC Animal Control. Not myself personally, but my sil, has had to call them twice about two different families' dogs that were forever in our yards, stealing things off her porch, digging up her garden, etc. One we KNEW didn't have shots, so not only was it an annoyance, it was a health risk to other pets. Both times JCAC came out and took care of the problem, those families didn't have dogs anymore! Now one of those nieghbors has 2 small dogs and a freak'in rooster! We hear that dang thing all the time!:x
This one is a problem that I don't know what is better. On one hand, I can understand the problem with allowing a dog to roam freely without discipline and on the other I hate seeing a dog chained to a tree as far from human contact property can offer.
Cats are our problem. We love birds and feed them. Neighboorhood cats think it is a "baited" hunting area. Too many dead birds. And yes we have complained to the neighbors. Does no good.
We have this problem as well. Not birdfeeders, but sandbox, garden, bushes...etc If I wanted cats hanging out in my yard, I'd get one!
Too bad people just don't get that cats are healthier and live longer if they are indoor cats. It's not only better for the birds, it's better for the cats to keep them inside.
Sorry, not buying that. A lot of cats are miserable inside. My parents always have had outdoor cats and they live a good 16 to 17 years. They are well taken care of, get their vaccines routinely, etc. But cats that are tossed outside and not taken care are a different story.
 I'm sorry, but that was an terrible thing that you did. That cat may have starved to death for all you know. So, you would do that to a cat, someone's pet, over some wild birds? :-(
catsd are the souls of the damned.... if you grab them by the tail and uder the chin and stretch them tight until rigor mortis sets in however, they do make dandy toilet brushes...
I've had and known several outdoor cats who have lasted well into their teens.. one being a cat of DH's.. she was the queen of outdoor cats, almost never came inside and lived to be 18.
The debate goes on. A google search on indoor outdoor cat brings back 1.4 million hits. Like this one that says and this one, and this forum, and Drs. Foster & Smith Catalog that offers lots of toys to help your cat get plenty of exercise without going outside, and says and this one, and . . . well you get the idea! I, too, have had indoor-outdoor cats that lived long lives. I have also had indoor-outdoor cats that met an untimely end. My Sheba is a 17-year old indoor cat, who can still get on top of the bookcases to view her kingdom. err, I mean, queendom. Her brother and littermate was an indoor cat who died of cancer at age 13. Keeping them inside doesn't guarantee a long life, but it does give them a better shot at it.
Some cats like it indoors, some don't. My guess is the ones that have had a moment in the sun, want more. Try to keep a cat inside that has had a taste of freedom. Very tough! And Ready, I get what you are saying - but when does an animal's rights override a human's? I feel bad for all these cats around here, but really the responsibility falls back on the owners. I'll be damned if I'm just gonna open up "Club Kitty" in my yard. That infringes on my basic rights! I don't run out at night and take a dump in my neighbor's flower bed!!
Where I used to live, there was a medium size black dog that would wander around. Sweetest, most humble dog. His owners just never seemed to be that concerned for him and chained him a lot. When I got ready to move, I would have loved to have been able to let that dog hop into my truck and taken him with me.
We had a dog just like that in our subdivision. He use to travel around the neighborhood daily. Most days he would come by our house (on the other side of the subdivision) and bark on our front porch until we'd come out and give him a treat. My dogs and children enjoyed his visits and we didn't mind (except at 6:30 on a Saturday morning) because he was very good natured. One day though ... he was lying behind the back tires of his owner's car. She didn't realize he was there (he was quite a big dog). She ran over him. It was a sad day! That family has another dog now but that dog is not near as friendly and I hope they work better to keep it contained.
