Decent Phone Companies?

We operate a small home based business. We have 2 lines. One of the lines has the distinctive rings so we can operate a fax from the line. The other line rings through a local # and an 800#. We don't like anyone getting a busy signal, so we also have the service where the voice message picks up when the line is busy. In addtion, we have call forwarding & caller id. My question is ... do you know of a decent phone service other than AT&T/Bell South in this area that can accomodate those needs? When we 1st moved into this area we used Bell South. They messed up our bill almost monthly for the 3 months we used them. We spent hours on the phone correcting the bills. In a couple of cases the bills from Bell South were more than double what they should have been. In any case, we got sick of Bell South, their multiple mistakes & their poor customer service. We changed to AT&T and things went smoothly. I loved AT&T ... until they merged with Bell South a while back. We have had problem after problem after problem with them since that time. They stink. I wish Time Warner or the cell phone companies could accomodate our phone needs ... but they can't. Any suggestions?

    Melynda,

We dropped our local phone service entirely. We used the local line for fax and occasional use. The cost for just local service is 18 bucks per month, plus about 12 bucks in taxes. 360 a year.

We now use a web based fax system which I highly recommend. Trustfax.com has several options depending on use. Faxes come via the web as PDF files, and you fan upload files for faxing through them. Our service plan comes out to about 60 bucks per year...or 5 bucks a month. The dial in number for faxing to us is a toll free number, so clients don't have to pay LD costs.

We use our cells for everything now. And with our service, we can assign specific rings for specific callers.

Granted, our phone/fax volume may not be as great as yours. For us, we can access our faxes anywhere as long as we have a web connection. If we're out at Panera and a fax comes in, we get the fax than, not having to wait when we come back here.

    Hope this helps.
