We've used Edible Art before. Tasty cake. Link is here: http://www.edibleartbakery.com/Graduations.html Good luck. Stephanie-- mom to 7 (soon to be 10!)
I have gotten my last two birthday cakes from here. http://www.sandysconfections.com/ You can see more pictures by clicking on her facebook link from that page. They are amazing and very reasonable in price.

Not sure how crafty you are but I made this cake for my dd's graduation and got lots of compliments on it! I bought the sheet cake semi decorated from BJ's bakery. I had them do the scalloping along the edges (in the colors we were using). Then I bought some of the Wilton's icing and dye and made my own to match and using some icing tips I already had, wrote the name, added the swirles and dots. Then I made a cap from card stock, used a large thumb tack and black embroidery thread to make the tassel, and added a curly ribbon thing (like you use on a gift) - it was pretty cheap and she loved it!
