About the redistricting meeting for the new boundary lines being developed, since there are two new High schools going up? I went to the map today and was able to see if my children were going to go to a different High School.
I am wondering if you are a freshmen attending a high school now are you given the option to attend the same high school if you are able to provide your own transportation if you do not want to change high schools or would that rule only apply if you were say a junior. I knew a kid that was a junior and he did not want to change to a new high school
Well, all I can tell you is that when West View was built, my DD was slated to move there her 5th grade year. We were given the option to let her go, or keep her at Cleveland and provide our own transportation. We sent her to WV.
My teen and I were talking about that last night. Surely they will some decisions based on rising Seniors, at least. Sherry
I know there is some kind of clause or was when WJHS was built, this kid I was talking about was going to be a junior and did not want to change, however he had to provide his own transportion, I just did not know if there was a grade/class limit of when the clause would take effect if that clause is still active.
I heard from someone in JCS that the new high school in the Corinth area might open with only freshmen and sophomores. I do not know if that is true. I am sure they will honor Senior requests, at least I hope so! It is aggravating because my oldest went to 6th grade at one middle school and got moved to an new school for 7th and 8th. Now he is at CHS as a freshmen and will be moved to the new high school. I think it is crappy to hit the same class twice like that, but I know they will have to tighten up the reassignment approvals. You just can't build two new schools and let everyone stay at the old school just because they want to (unless you're a senior). You should go to the meeting on Oct. 1 at the CLayton Center to find out more. Good luck!
I believe that you don't have a choice about deciding to stay at your current school unless you are a junior or senior .
We've been through this before and only the rising seniors were allowed to automatically stay at the same high school. All others had to compete the usual Jo.Co. transfer form and cross fingers. And for both daughters, we had to complete the form each year-just because they approve you to go one year does not mean you are automatically allowed to stay for future years. DD is a senior this year and we sat on pins and needles hoping her form would be approved (thankfully it was). Also, don't be fooled into thinking that the public forums will make a difference in the boundaries drawn. They just have to let you think you have an opinion that matters. In the end, it didn't change anything when the Clayton High and West Johnston High boundaries were enforced.
