Ironically, the first thing I thought of was the 'freak accident' convo on here as soon as I heard this news story.
Stingray If it hadnt happened to Steve Erwin it wouldnt even be a blip on the news. Very freaky for it to jump in the boat.
Actually, the smaller ones found in coastal waters called skates are often cut up with a scalloped shaped cutter, breaded and sold as scallops, by many restaurants...the easy way to tell is if there are no striations within the meat..it's probably a ray or skate... Beach goers should be warned to do the stingray "shuffle" while wading, so rays can move away....and always wear foot protection..like nylon water mesh shoes..
Re: Stingray The guy that got speared with a swordfish he caught made the news... that was well before the Erwin incident.
I agree with you 150%. The reason for this thread is to show a freak accident verses swimming with them. I respect steve erwin and what he did but I am not surprised by his death. I mean come on. Ben
Darn them, first they attack the institution of marriage and then they attack the English language!!! What? Not what homophones are? Are you sure because they sound similar? Never mind ......
Stingrays Makes me think about one of those underwater/amphibious conversion kit for a Glock. Might be kinda fun to hunt stingrays with a handgun.
Devilock76, Ever go to the beaches in NC? During warm weather? Guess what, there are stingrays there. In the shallow surf where people are. Do you wear your boots when you're there? One got me in the heel a couple of years ago. Hurt like hell, and kept hurting worse. Went to a doctor's office, where they stuck my foot in warm water with some Betadine in it. They said that warm water neutralizes the poison from the barb. If one ever gets you, save yourself $200 and stick your foot in a bucket of warm water! Snuffleufogous
