Looking for comments about Dish Network. I'm thinking of switching from DirecTV to Dish Network. Has anyone else done this?

I've never had Direct TV, but I have Dish Network. Just to let you know, the signal goes out when there is a storm. I don't know if it's like that with Direct TV.

I have currently have Dish Network and I have no complaints. The only difference btw the two are the sports packages. Direct has the NFL ticket.

I have had both. Like Directv better but just slightly. They are both too expensive. Just my opinion.

For those of you saying you lose reception.....I've lived in Clayton since '01 and can count on one hand the number of times I've lost reception. One of which was during Hurricane Isabelle in '03? so I wouldn't stress over it.

I was with DirecTV for 14 yrs. Hardly ever called them.

Added an addition to my house. Time for some new, HD tv's.

Asked DirecTV to give me the same package they were offering NEW customers, ie, free HD DVR, several free hook ups in other rooms, free premium channels for a time, etc.

Nope, can't do. Nada. Out of the question. Impossible.

14 years as a loyal customer and they wouldn't budge.

    Called Dish Network.

Got everything I wanted plus NO CONTRACT for only $40 out of my pocket. I HATE CONTRACTS!!!!!

    Quality is fine.

    Guess what?

DirecTV starts calling and writing to COME BACK HOME!

We'll give you everything you ORIGINALLY asked for.

    Sorry. Too late.

But, if they offer some super fantastic deal down the road, I'll consider it if Dish Network can't match it.

I have Direct TV and I have not lost signal except when the power has gone out. Dish would not take us because we did not have a credit card and Debit cards would not work. I have not complaints with direct at all.

I had Dish Network for about 3 years. I liked the channel selection. I did not like the service. It cut out every time it got cloudy. To be fair my property is heavily wooded. I found out later that the satellite for Direct TV sits higher in the sky than the one(s) Dish Network uses. This would mean that I might have had better luck with Direct since the dish could potentially point over the trees.

One thing that bugged me was that there is a service charge for them to come out and look at it. Cable doesn't charge for that.

Last summer Time Warner came around with a good deal so I switched. It is MUCH clearer and much more stable. I also like that it can be connected in each room without an extra charge.

This deal runs out in August. I'll look at whoever offers the best deal then but it would have to be a good deal to drop the cable at this point.

For what it's worth, my parents have Direct TV and have no problems with it.

Dish Network has dual tuner receivers meaning they can operate two tvs. I have an HD receiver upstairs for my projector but downstairs we have a dual SD DVR that operates the master and living room. In short, three tvs running on two boxes.

When we went this route a few years ago, Direct Tv didn't have this technology but they may today.

Another thing folks could consider is getting local channels over the air (OTA). Now that the digital conversion has taken place, I've started tinkering around with an antenna in the attic.

So far I have picked up channels from Greenville, New Bern and Greensboro. Granted these are only networks and usually repetitive programs, but it should come in handy when the NFL starts. Sometimes different markets will broadcast different games. Plus HD is the native resolution to OTA and it is much clearer than satellite and cable. Most importantly.......it's FREE.

I have had Directv for over 12 years. I few minor reception loses during bad storms but nothing big. I personally won't change. Don't pay for local channels!! They will want to sell that package to you and won't tell you that you can get them for free. I won't ever give up my directv because have the CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX east coast and west coast feeds that they no longer provide. This means with feeds out NYC and LA and with free locals I get about 8 NFL football games without paying for NFL ticket.

Get yourself a cheap Over the air antenna and you get all local channels in HD for free. You don't need a converter box either. The directv box is already a digital converter.

I've had DirecTV for about 12 years too. Never had any major problems. It will go out occasionally during a storm but its not out for long. I called them a few years ago to hook up my bedroom adn because "I was such a loyal customer" they hooked up all 3 of my bedrooms free of charge. No monthly payments on the bedrooms either. And my local channels are free. I won't be leaving them.
