I've been looking but haven't found anything as of yet. I also tried to sign my oldest son up for Big Brothers/Big Sisters but was told they have nothing out here....as if Johnston County is in the "middle of nowhere"!
Have you asked if your child's school counselors conduct any type pf group meetings for children whose families are going through this? And, with the interest that you have shown so far, perhaps you can begin to set something up? I'm sure that there are resources that would open up to you to support this. Good Luck...
2nd Question...churches Does anyone have any info about a large (huge congregation) non-denominational church in Garner? It sounds like a contemporary church, located in an owned (rather than shared) building???
There is a Parents Without Partners chapter in Cary - http://www.capitalareapwp.org/ From what I could tell many years ago, this is a group for parents to hang out - not much for the kids. So, if you don't have a babysitter then you won't get to do much with this group. I also looked into Big Brothers/Big Sisters and other mentor organizatons many years ago - there really was not anything available unless you were in the projects, on public assistance, high-risk etc.
Here is a list of meetup groups - http://singleparents.meetup.com/cities/us/nc/carrboro/ The link says Carrboro, but it was actually Raleigh, Apex, etc. The United Way might also have something.
I'd rather meet socially rather then have organized activities. find it intimidating if other are better at thing then me or I am better then them. I feel like I g have to talk to someone, instead of feeling like I want to speak to someone. - does that make any sense. ...I gues I just don't do well under pressure....lol
