Has anyone used the grooming services at the new pet place that opened up by the Dairy Queen off 42? We can never get our dog to calm enough to let us clip her. PetSmart was unable to clip her either and the last time the vet had gone up to 12.50 from 10. The new place said it would be 5.00 when we called. Thanks in advance for any replies or suggestions.

Haven't used them, or heard anything about them. 5.00 is a great price.

Have you tried just cutting them yourself and doing a few nails at a time over a few days? That's what I do with a kitty of mine who is less than cooperative.

The scary part is if you can't get her to calm down, the groomer will likely have the same problem.

How big is she? When you say she isn't calm and you can't clip them, do you mean she gets ticked, or just wide open?

If she gets angry and you fear a bite, then get a muzzle and put it on when you do her. It isn't mean and it doesn't hurt - it just prevents them from taking a chunk out of you.

If she's one who just won't stay still, depending on her size, you can wrap her in a large towel/bath sheet to keep her stationary - and her feet from moving - minus the one you are going to trim the nails off of - and get a good grip on that leg and clip away. Maybe get her out and exercise her until she is exhausted and then attempt the nail cutting.

When they are puppies, it is best to play with their feet as often as possible to get them used to having their paws handled. You can get the used to this as adults too - it just might take patience.

Whomever is going to clip her nails is going to have to bodily restrain her in some way so she can't get hurt, nor hurt them. If she is that much of a wild child, they will earn every penny of that 5.00

Thanks for the reply zoo. She's our other lab (76 lbs) that we adopted from a family that was moving and could not take her. She was already 1 1/2 so we missed the puppy stage and getting her used to her feet being handled. She normally doesn't mind us touching her feet but as soon as she sees the clippers she starts running. We've tried treats, 3 of us holding her while mordorboy tries to clip, etc. Last time after 30 minutes we were all tired and sweaty but she would still not cooperate. Petsmart told mb we'd have to sedate her at the vet (that was our last time going there). But the vets office did it in less that 5 minutes w/1 holder and 1 clipper w/no sedation. It seems the older she gets the less cooperative she is about getting them clipped. (Oh, she's never been hurt by the clippers so truly baffled). Thanks again!
