We have a 2 1/2 year old border collie mix who looks like a black wolf and sounds like she will eat someone alive when she barks. However, she is sweet and gentle, great with other dogs and kids. The problem is when she is out with us she barks at other people. She is very afraid of men but she acts like she wants attention with women; then they come up to her and she barks at them. This behavior seemed to start when we had to put our other dog down(this one was dominant)-almost like she felt she had to step up and be the protector. Is it enough to try and socialize her more, or is there something else we could be doing? I feel so bad when she seems aggressive like that.

Thanks again Zookeeper! I will try everything and let you know how things go. I think it is so wonderful what you do. Do you mind me referring someone to you? I know someone whose dog bit their child and she is trying Dog Whisperer techniques with some success but I know she has more questions.
