Okay...so I'm an overprotective mom. My lab-mix appears to be drooling a lot this evening and continuously licking her face. She whine a couple of times. She's eating fine, etc. This just started in the last 30 minutes. I gave her 50 mg of benedryl. She has allergy issues and takes perscription allergy meds morning and night. I went with the benedryl in case it is an allergic reaction to something. I am debating taking her to VSH tonight.

Not sure if you've changed anything in your house, but when this happened to my parents' miniature pinscher, it was because he was allergic to some new air fresheners my mom had plugged in all over the house. It took them weeks to figure out why he kept licking the air:lol:
I love my dog like a child and if he was doing this, I'd just wait until tomorrow to get him into the regular vet vs. paying for the VSH. That is assuming he is breathing normal and not vomiting heavily. JMO!

We had a similar situation with one of our dogs about a month ago. Her jowls were swollen too. I gave her a Benadryl and we watched her really carefully for a while. The swelling went down and she was just fine. It has not happened again and we never found out what caused it. I agree with englishbullymom, as long as there's no vomiting or trouble breathing, if she's still doing it in the morning take her to your vet.

I am certainly not an expert, this is just MHO based on personal experience.

How's your pup?? I didnt know what to advise ... I was wondering about a chipped tooth, scratched gum or mouth injury from chewing on a bone or stick or rock ... that'd cause drooling and mouth licking besides allergies ... how's she doing?

Thanks for asking! It was an isolated case and I called the Vet the next AM. I did give Benedryl. He said watch her and if she does it again to bring her in. She has been seen 3 times in the last month (check up, minor surgery, and suture removal) and he checked her teeth then and said they looked great. He said she even could have been nauseated. I have been watching her closely!
