Shelby will be 13 years old next month and I have recently noticed that she takes one step at a time when coming up the steps. Do any of you give your dogs vitamins for joint problems? Thank you.
Mine do not have joint problems, but I do give Pet Tabs each day. I have read lots of good things about them.
I have been doing some research on line, I really don't feel comfortable about buying something online, do they offer vitamins at PetsMart?
I'm sure they do. I use a place called PetEdge. They have a mail order business as well as an internet site.
I also give my dogs daily Pet Tabs, they are good for dogs of all ages, but especially for the older dogs. My vet recommended the ones with the extra iron for the senior dogs. My furry kids love them, they think they are getting a treat when they get their vitamin! Harley, if Shelby is having problems with her joints, she may need a suppliment with glucosomine (sp?). There is a website for Dr Fosters and Smith which is a great pet catalog with vitamins and suppliments. I'll find the website address and PM you later.
suppliments My female GSD was born with hip dysplasia. She has done well with liquid glucosamine/chondroiten/MSM suppliment. There is a K-9 liquid formula found in some pet stores and also at Harmony Farms..its pricey ($30 for a large bottle)! I now buy this suppliment in drops form at the discount pet store in Cary. its about $13 for a bottle of drops, but they are worth it. If your dog does not improve, I suggest a course of anti-inflammitories and pain meds. (both in generic forms are inexpensive) This wouldnt have to be daily. My dog only takes meds when she has flare ups...havent needed meds for 5 months now. good luck!
Glyco-Flex, period. I buy it online all the time. Have one foster with severe hip dysplasia (one FHO just done!) and another just-breaking-into-arthritis pup. The Glyco-Flex makes a notable difference in a short period of time! There are three levels of it. If you find their website, it will spell out which will be right for your dogs condition. Buying it online is much cheaper - but it is NOT cheap! Good Luck!
It could be arthritis and if so prednisone would probably be the treatment. You would have to see the vet but if so you can usually get the prescription filled at a regular drugstore more cheaply than the vets office
