Good Morning...I was wondering if anyone can suggest a company or companies who service the cleveland school area for DSL internet access. I'm really just looking for something affordable.

    Thank you!!! :)

we use bellsouth, and last time i checked they're cheaper than time warner, unless you do the bundled package, not sure what time warner is now offering.

We use Embarq, and have been pretty happy with them. We used to have Sprint basic phone service, then it changed to Embarq, so by bundling basic phone and DSL, the price is pretty decent.

I kinda like how Embarq failed to mention early on that their customers could retain Earthlink for a nominal fee rather than switch.

I hate Embarq....I'm switching back to TWC. It may be more expensive, but it's worth it!!!

I would like to use TWC because that's who I use for cable but when I called them they said that they don't offer DSL...and that's specifically what I need. I was gonna go with Embarq but sounds like they have a bad rep!!! :?

Any reason why you specifically need DSL? The cable hook up from TWC is much faster than DSL.

Yeah...I'm using the internet access for a part time job from home and road runner isn't working for me. I use a USB heaset and I'm getting connection issues that my software people say is due to using internet through my cable. They said that most of their technical issues come from people who are not hooked up to DSL...seems very strange to me but I haven't been able to work my 2nd job for over a week now so I guess I'll try anything!!! GRRR

 GRRR is right.....Depending on where you live you may be able to get DSL through Bellsouth. Bellsouth and Embarq kinda split this area. Call Bellsouth (they are better) to see if they service your address.

Bellsouth/AT&T/Sprint don't service my area...SO....I'm basically left with Embarq, Embarq, or Embarq!!!! LOL
I'm waiting on a call back from QRO Wireless that someone suggested. I wonder why TWC doesn't offer DSL??? Weird.

Are you sure you can't get Bellsouth? We live over near 50/42 & that's what we use.

There is no "real" winner between DSL and Cable Broadband connections.
Cable is faster if your on a line with minimal users. Cable is a "shared broadband line" connection were DSL is a "private broadband connection". On the upload connection cable and DSL are close for speed.

Shared bandwidth means your speed can fluctuate depending on the number of subscribers on the line. The DSL connection performs with a more constant speed. That's why TWC doesn't publish hard numbers on it's connection speeds.

As for service, that's up to the local provider on how well they do. Both DSL and cable Internet speeds are dependant on the service provider and either the distance away from the switching station you are or how many subscribers are in your immediate area.

If you have a choice, those are the 2 questions you should pose to the providers your are considering. The one with the least subscribers or distance to the hub will make the decision for you.

Okay...thanks for the info on that. I also called QRO wireless in Clayton and they do wireless internet for $39.95/month with a one-time installation fee of $99. I'm waiting to hear back from him to find out I can receive wireless where i live.

I've thought about cable net service myself, but I have this thing about having all my service provided by one company. I don't like the notion of that, just for the sake of convenience. I don't want any of them having me by the...shirt collar.

For what it is worth, I use Embarq DSL at home and it has been rock solid as far as speed and uptime. I use a Skype IP phone on the connection a lot and it performs great. We use QRO Wireless in our office as well as BellSouth DSL and have had good results from all. A good initial install is key!

I love my cable modem, MUCH less down time than when I had DSL through Sprint/Embarq, not sure why though. I worked for a cable company back in TN that did the Beta testing for cable modems before they became available to the public. I got spoiled quick on that. LOVE it! Signed up as soon as they ran the cable out here.
