All, A week or two ago I posted an update regarding the expansion of the Shotwell Landfill on Smithfield Rd. Despite the fact that there are two public schools and one large pre-school within 2 miles of the Shotwell Landfill, the landfill operator has apparently submitted a permit request to begin dumping industrial waste at the Shotwell site. The new permit request for industrial waste complements another pending permit application that would allow the landfill to accept garbage from more than 15 counties across the state. A planned public hearing that was to have occurred today on this issue has now been delayed until April 18.
