I have been given 2 huge boxes of record albums that were my late grandparents, with the instruction to "sell them." Should I do this on ebay or craigslist? I've listed things on both: furniture on craigslist and other items on ebay....I've just never sold records so I'm not sure which would be the best place to sell these.
depends. in general, i'd say ebay if you can ship it, craigslist if it's big. what you might want to do is search the titles on ebay to see if anything is super hot. for example, being that they were your grandparents' records, there are some very valuable old classical rca early stereo albums. ' ebay is better for records, imho
No Zeppelin, I'm afraid...these are mostly from the 40s and 50s, possibly some from the 30s thrown in. Jazz, Swing, Big band, orchestras, etc. Some I've heard of (Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, etc.), but others....no clue to who they are, I'm afraid. I did see at least one Lawrence Welk in there!
don't let the lack of familiarity fool you. almost anything jazz on bluenote records from that era would be worth a mint, and again, the classical/orchestral stuff from the early stereo years is also big ticket. go to ebay, click on music, click on records, click on classical, arrange them by highest price first. you'll be shocked....
Thanks....WOW to some of those prices. I'll have to search through these carefully. My grandparents started buying records before they were married in 1936 so some of theirs are quite old, but in good condition from the ones I've looked at. I don't know if they have any of the "hot" ones, but it will be interesting to see!
I've started flipping through them....lots of German music and polkas, the original soundtrack to movies like The Sound of Music and Goldfinger...then a Santana and Crow! (Very odd, eclectic choice of music!) Also, there are 3 albums for exercising by Jack LaLanne! (Each is for a different set of muscles!)
what you'll probably find out is that the ones you know will be the least valuable. sound of music? found one for 30 bucks on the bay. goldfinger...5 to 10 bucks. the jack lalannes are on ebay with buy it now prices of 12.99 each. doesn't sound like alot, but it starts to add up, doesn't it?
I have no intention of letting my wife know about these. Must be coming around again, I saw some LaLanne T-Shirts and a book in the house a week or so ago, not that they are ever going to be used!
Well, if I had a record player......those exercise albums might work. Jack looks pretty good for a guy in his 90s! (I read an interview with him and these docs were saying he'd had the right idea all along!) Anybody know of anyone who'd like a lot of Polka, German beer hall, and drinking songs albums?
Yep, I heard it also with the wife, which probably triggered the ebay buying. Pleased his mind is still sharp!
We have several record players around our house because I have so many albums. I think Hugh's suggestion about a retirement center is good. I have some of the same albums you are talking about and would not give them up because of the memories. My dad loved(s) Ray Conniff, Frank Sinatra, all of the Rat Pack, etc. I just cannot get rid of them because I remember listening to them growing up. Grace dangerboy...thanks for the information as I would never have known about all of that.
