ECU Expanding Efforts to Help Recruit Teachers

    ECU OFFERS ELEMENTARY, SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND MIDDLE GRADES TEACHING
    DEGREE PROGRAMS ON COMMUNITY COLLEGE CAMPUSES

    In response to the need for more teachers, the College of Education of
    East Carolina University is offering teaching degrees in elementary
    education, special education, and middle grades education through
    Wachovia Partnership East at its South Central Consortium hub site for
    students seeking a bachelor's degree in teacher education. The degree
    programs will be delivered at Wayne Community College, and classes will
    begin August 2005 for elementary majors; January 2006 for special
    education majors; and May 2006 for middle grades math/science education
    majors. Applications for all three programs are available by email:
    gradyde@waynecc.edu.
    Wachovia Partnership East is designed to allow students to complete
    their general education coursework at one of the partnering community
    colleges and then transfer into the ECU program to complete the junior
    and senior years of the teaching degree in elementary or special
    education. Classes will be taught by ECU faculty at the hub site
    community college campus and through the Internet.
    Interested applicants should contact hub site coordinator, Debbie
    Grady, at gradyde@waynecc.edu or (919) 735-5152, ext. 385 for further
    information. Applications may be picked up at the Wayne Community
    College office or emailed to applicants. Applications are due by
    October 1 for special education majors; February 1 for middle grade
    majors; and February 15 for elementary majors.
    The Wachovia Partnership East South Central Consortium serves students
    from James Sprunt Community College, Lenoir Community College, Johnston
    Community College, Sampson Community College, Wayne Community College,
    and Seymour Johnston Air Force Base; as well as the local school systems
    in Greene, Duplin, Lenoir, Johnston, Sampson, and Wayne Counties.
