Just FYI: I just got this from our IT Department..... To all XXXXX employees who are members of the State Employees Credit Union: The SECU has notified us this morning that a scamming site originating in Florida has sent out millions of text messages to the phones of SECU members. The message appears as if it was sent from SECU, and it asks members to call an 800# and key in their debit/credit card number and PIN. This is a hoax. Do not respond to this message. SECU is working with the Secret Service, the Attorney General, and the telephone companies to have this 800# blocked, but that may take several hours. An emergency message is being posted on the SECU website. The SECU, nor any legitimate financial institution, will ever ask for this information to be transmitted in this manner. Thank you.
Husband called to warn me about this. He just got the message too on his blackberry. For us, it was at first believeable as we just purchased a new(well, used) car and just got a loan through them yesterday! We obviously never transmit this info and ONLY do business in person. Makes my credit card companies mad--LOL. Identity theft has happened to us in the past at the driver's license place. Long story. Bottom line, always always veryify w/ your financial institutions at their office. Thanks for the heads up. Stephanie--mom to 7
Why in the world can't people just work and make an HONEST living? Why do they have to cheat and scam people??!!
I got that text message, and I don't even have an account with SECU. Needless to say, I didn't call the number.
