Being I had a dogtastrophe last week, I felt compelled to share some knowledge. Hopefully, this information will save ya'all some financial and emotional duress. In short, there are many ER vets to choose from. I've found with cost to service ratio, NC State is the best provider. Yes, they are pricey. However, overall you get the best deal. First, there is no waiting. Once you ring the bell, they greet you and take your furbaby for evaluation. At any given point there are several Dr's and vet students on hand. This being so, the level of care is exceptional. Once a patient is seen, you can come back at anytime for specialty services. The services are pricey, but they still cost less than other specialty vets such as Cary Specialty. I priced the same procedure at both facilities... price difference of $600. Another bonus is Care Credit. Not many vet hospitals accept this as a form of payment. NC State does. The interest is high, but you can get an interest free payment period for 3 months. This helps out alot on unexpected expenditures. Finally, they are good to work with. Your regular vet gets the info they need without attitude. So... there are several ER vets, but my personal recommendation is NC State. I hope you'll never have to deal with a crisis, but if'n ya do keep them in mind. MM
NC state is very nice. i'm glad someone made an effort to say something nice. our kitty had to get an operation and stay for a few days. they have a nice lil room for you to visit with your pet. we visted her and she never really is one that likes to be held long so after awhile she got ancy and a nurse came real quick and took care of her. the veterinary specialty hospital is good too but it really depends on which dr you get :/ i've seen someone go there and it cost $800 for them to pretty much do nothing :/
My neighbor is a vet tech. According to her and others Cary VSH is hard to work with and overly priced. I have to agree from personal experience. A couple of years back I drove 7 hours to see a specialist. Even with gas and lodging I spent $700 less than VSH's estimate.
well i work at an animal hospital and i see the reports that are faxed over. i've seen reports that tell nothing at all and i'm sorry clients had to waste their money on that, and i've seen terrific jobs done. VSH isnt just one hospital, its a chain, so you can expect some difficults compared to an individual emergency clinic. i've even had to use VSH for my pets that required more specific care and i didnt have problems.
