Ever carved yours & your sweety's initials in a tree?

    Or, perhaps somewhere else?

I did back in June, 1991. My bride and I had been dating for awhile, and to celebrate when we first said we loved each other we went on a picnic near Falls Lake under a huge beech tree.

    Here's a pic:

I had previously been to this spot in 1990 and carved my initials, so I knew this was a good picnic spot. This pic was taken about a year or so after I carved it.

Over the weekend my daughter and I took a bike ride back to that location because I realized I had never taken her to see "our" tree.

What a disappointment I had when we saw that huge tree lying on the ground, broken at the base!

It was obvious that it was a recent event, probably from the high winds we had in the past couple of storms. I noticed that the middle of the tree had some signs of disease, so I guess it was inevitable to get blown down, but it was still a disappointment.

Almost 17 years later the carving was still plainly visible.

Anyone else got their names or initials in something to celebrate a particular time or place in your life?

When was the last time you went back to check on it?

Just my name in my underwear when I went to summer camp... I kid!

That's really neat Kent! Kinda cool you were drawn to go back there and get a last glimpse of the tree, don'tcha think?

I can't believe it took me that long to think about taking my daughter to see it.

It's really lucky or fateful that you did.
