This is just so awesome, in my opinion. North Carolina thanks those members of Farm Aid who picked us this year. Sherry http://www.farmaid.org/site/c.qlI5IhNVJsE/b.6236707/k.8E86/About_the_Concert.htm About the Concert Each year, Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews headline a Farm Aid concert to bring together a wide variety of musicians, farmers and fans for one mission: keeping family farmers on their land. Farm Aid is the longest running benefit concert series in America, raising more than $45 million to help family farmers thrive all over the country while inspiring millions of people to learn about the Good Food movement. Farm Aid 2014 Farm Aid is coming to Walnut Creek Amphitheatre in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 13! The concert lineup features Willie Nelson & Family, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Jack White and more. Farm Aid 2014 is an all-day music and food festival, and will feature a unique lineup of artists and genres and will offer concert-goers family farm-identified, local and organic foods with its own HOMEGROWN Concessions®. In Farm Aid's HOMEGROWN Village, attendees will have the chance to meet farmers, engage in hands-on food and farm activities, and learn about the ways family farmers are enriching our soil, protecting our water and growing our economy, in addition to bringing us good food for good health. "In North Carolina and across the Southeast, family farmers have struggled to stay on the land, but they have also pioneered new roads to economic sustainability. This region knows the value of its farmers and offers increasing opportunities for new farmers to build a strong regional food system. On the Farm Aid stage Saturday, September 13, we'll celebrate family farmers and the healthy communities they're growing for all of us." -- Willie Nelson

I have a knot in my stomach waiting on these tickets to go on sale. I'm sure they are going to go fast and I really want to take my daughter and help farmers at the same time. Wish me luck!!! Sherry
Was able to purchase our tickets. I am so very excited and will tell my daughter after work. I believe she has forgotten about the concert so this should be a treat. Sherry
Not with this lineup. lol She loves some Dave Matthews and others. I'd say none of this lineup would be caught dead at the fundraiser above, nor would most farmers. haha Sherry
A person can do both. Farm Aid gets the word out about the plight of farmers plus helps raise money. I shop at local farmer's markets also. Sherry
As they should IMO. There's a helluva lot to do to get one of these events done proper. I'd hate to just pay for the liability policy for that day.
If you are saying the charity only gets 20% I agree it is wrong. I was thinking that the folks running it, if they only get to 20% they are losing money.
You might want to check the facts before making a comment. This organization gives out the majority of the money for farmers. And, due to the government shutdown is giving out more. The performers actually do lose money, but they gain more in what they give......... Sherry http://www.farmaid.org/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=qlI5IhNVJsE&b=2723877&ct=13379625 You can view our financial information on our website at http://www.farmaid.org/annualr..., and in particular you can see exactly what was spent in our 2012 financials in this PDF: http://j.mp/2012FinancialState... . You will see that in 2012, we spent a total of $1,722,903. Of that, $1,351,012 was spent on programs. The remaining $371,891 was spent on fundraising and administration. This means 78% of our budget was spent on programs to achieve our mission, and 22% was spent on fundraising and administration, well within the range of charity watchdog recommendations about what percentage of a non-profit's budget should be spent on program activities. You also may be interested to know that the charity watchdogs are changing their recommendations, allowing for greater flexibility as to how much is spent on what they call "overhead." An alliance of charity watchdogs, including Charity Navigator, published The Overhead Myth in June 2013, which explains how failure to invest in administration and fundraising hurts the organization and its mission.
