My sources tell me gas prices are getting ready to SKYROCKET!!!...as much as $.25 a gallon or more TODAY!!. Don't know Big Oil's reason (as if they need one!)... maybe the hurricane in the Gulf, maybe OPEC's cutback on production. Anyway, just passing it on. If it was only apenny or 2, or 4 or 5, I wouldn't think much of it, but this might be a huge jump.
not due to oil as much as it is the refinery's in Texas being affected. there is plenty of oil on the market, all about refineries
Thanks for letting us know. I was debating on whether or not to stop tonight. I think you just helped me make up my mind.
Why do I find this hard to stomach? Oils down again today to around $100 a barrel. That's down from a record high of $147 a barrel in August when gas hit $4.05 per gallon in the area. I just paid $3.569 at BJ's a couple of hours ago. That's a drop of 32% in the cost of crude and a measly drop of just 12% at the pumps. Go figure. Just a little price gouging going on me thinks. As far as a $.25 per gallon jump today I find that hard to believe. Some people watch soaps, some people watch game shows. When I'm home rather that channel surfing I watch CNBC and absolutely nothing has been said about gas jumping today. The market as of 2:39pm this afternoon has made a 150 point turnaround based off of the dollar strengthing and oil continuing to drop. Well after posting this I decided to do some more research and here's an article posted on cnnmoney.com relating to the wholesale gas price skyrocketing because of Ike. I guess we'll all know for sure soon.
All the facts in the world can't being to equal the power of a bad rumor. They become self fulfilling prophecies. With a panic demand in the short term, the price will only go up.
I got my info from someone in the transport business. Supposedly this jump was at the terminal. I reckon we'll just wait and see.... :?
I just went to bjs at 2:29 and it was 3.589. Which isn't great because at other gas stations it was 3.56
Sometimes BJ's isn't the best price around. I asked one day how come the price at the White Oak one was always lower than the Cary store and was told because they do surveys of local stations and post a price based on that. I try to combine things together before making a trip to White Oak for gas. It's about 8 miles each way from where I live. That's almost a gallon just going and coming, based off of 18 mpg with my truck. If I pay $.10 more per gallon at the station closer to home I still save money in the long run. I don't go out of my way to get to BJ's just for gas anymore. It used to be a better deal but then I used to be young and good looking (not).
A girl at the office just went to fill up at a Texaco and said there was a sign on every pump to limit your purchase to 10 gallons so everyone could have a chance to get fuel ? Hopefully this was just THIS station and maybe they were having an issue...just funny that I see this thread right after she said this to me.
I'm currently in the Clemson area of South "I really hate this state" Carolina. I paid $3.37 today down here. Nan ner, nan ner, nan ner.
SC always has better prices than NC and no state inspection. Still not enough to get me to move there though.
I have some relatives in SC and they said their prices are lower because their state gas tax is less than ours. I don't know if that is true or not, but we always fill up when we are down there because it is always a good bit cheaper there.
According to API (a petroleum industry organization) total state and local gas taxes as of July 2008: NC 48.6 cents per gallon SC 35.2 cents per gallon (That includes 18.4 cents federal tax in each case).
Hubby heard this on the news this morning, and said we should probably fill up. I went to "The Good Store" on hwy50 towards Benson, and got gas for 3:49 this morning. That's the lowest I've gotten it in a while.
WTVD just did a live report from a BP station requesting customers limit themselves to 10 gallons. They also reported that AAA says gas prices COULD go up 50-75 cents a gallon due to Ike. You know we're shafted now. If customers think that prices can climb 50-75 cents per gallon, guess how much they will go up??????
