    Corinth-Holders Student Recognized for Leadership, Selected for Legislature School
    Corinth-Holders is proud to announce that 8th grade student Elizabeth Cabrera has been accepted to Legislature School at East Carolina University this summer. Elizabeth was selected because of her leadership qualities in the classroom and on the athletic field, as well as her academic accomplishments at school. She will spend two weeks on campus developing these leadership abilities as she prepares for high school and beyond.

    McGee's to Hold Ballroom Dance
    McGee's Middle School's Ladies of Class and Gentlemen of Quality will host its first semi-formal ballroom banquet at the school on April 8 at 3 p.m. in the cafeteria.

    Parents Celebrated at Cooper
    Cooper Elementary School will host a parent volunteer reception in appreciation for their time and support of the school's mission. The reception will be held on Friday, April 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

    South Smithfield PTA Hosting Informational Meeting
    The South Smithfield Elementary School PTA will host an informational meeting with special guest Virginia Parker, mother of two and past president of the Wake County PTA, to provide information about the PTA's role. Topics to be discussed will include how to be an effective PTA, the PTA's role, fundraising, and more importantly, how to join! The future of the South Smithfield PTA will be discussed, and parents are invited to help create a plan for the future. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school's cafeteria.

    Tom I. Davis Leadership Awards Due April 24
    The Johnston County Education Foundation is seeking applicants for its annual Tom I. Davis Leadership Award. Cash awards totaling at least $500 will be awarded for professional development that will augment the recipient's leadership qualities and goals. A recognition certificate will be presented to the winner during the June Board of Education meeting. This prestigious award was established in 2000 by Jimmy and Earlene Hite to encourage leadership at all levels in the Johnston County Schools and in recognition of the outstanding leadership Tom I. Davis, Jr., provided to the Johnston County Schools. "The Hites and the Johnston County Education Foundation recognize that educational leadership and excellence in education will extend into the greater community," said Lorine Davis, Executive Director of the Johnston County Education Foundation.

    Riverwood Middle Yearbook Recognized for Excellence
    The Riverwood Middle School yearbook staff has been recognized by Taylor Publishing with an Honorable Mention Award of Excellence for its dedication, effort, and accomplishments. The Riverwood Middle School yearbook is included in the Yearbook Yearbook. The yearbook advisor at Riverwood is Elaine Jenkins.

    Chick-Fil-A Cow Makes Appearance at Cooper Spirit Night
    The Chick-fil-A cow visited students and staff at Cooper Elementary on Thursday, March 30 during afternoon dismissal. His visit was part of the PTA's Chick-fil-A Spirit Night at the White Oak crossing store on Thursday evening.     Johnson Named to Health Education Board of Directors
    Dr. Oliver Johnson, Director of Student Services for the Johnston County Schools, has been nominated and unanimously appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education. The Poe Center is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive programs and resources in healthy lifestyle education for all youth in North Carolina. The Poe Center has several initiatives in place in Johnston County Schools including: the Wholesome Routines Program and the Tobacco Use Prevention and Peer Education Enhancement Project.

    West Clayton Receives Mini-Grant
    West Clayton Elementary School has received a mini-grant from Allstate Foundation to fund an essay writing contest regarding the Students Against Violence program at West Clayton Elementary School.

    Selma Kindergarten Class Invites Selma Official to Speak
    Selma Elementary School will host a presentation by Bobby Pierce from the Town of Selma Public Works Department on April 6 at 8:45 a.m. in Sonia Temple's kindergarten room. Mr. Pearce will speak about the importance of keeping the earth clean.

    Princeton Science Olympiad Team Places*please see attachment
    The Princeton Science Olympiad Team has advanced to the North Carolina State Science Olympiad Tournament. The tournament will be held on April 8 in Raleigh at NCSU. The team is coached by Elizabeth Logan, Glenna Eckenrod, and Mike Logan. Team members are sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders.
