*The last day of school for Johnston County Schools students is June 8. Students will be dismissed early. Cooper Elementary School students learn to be good Americans Josephine Howard of the Clayton Woman's Club presented flags to Mrs. Kimberly Clifton's first grade class on Thursday, June 1, at Cooper Elementary School. The students wrote special letters and drew pictures to be delivered to servicemen in honor of Memorial Day. Ms. Howard talked with the students about the importance of loving the United States of America and being a good American citizen. (Photo attached. Selma Elementary staff organized fundraiser to benefit local couple On April 30, the faculty and staff of Selma Elementary School worked with members of Princeton Baptist Church and the family of Brian and Suzanne Mitchell to pull off the most successful fundraiser in the school's history. Suzanne is a reading specialist at Selma Elementary. This past week, the staff presented a check to Brian and Suzanne in the amount of $29,000. The money was raised to help the couple purchase a specialty van for Brian, who has MS and a compressed spinal cord injury. Money was raised through letters seeking donations that were sent to family and friends about Brian's condition; and, the selling of about 1,350 barbecue chicken plates. (Photo attached.
