Whether you like him or not, here is a link to a blog on Fred Smith's 21 hour day on Tuesday, November 7. It indicates he worked the polling locations pretty hard on election day. He is our State Senator for another term. www.innerbanks.blogspot.com/
I don't think it is illegal in NC yet, they've been talking about making it illegal, but they haven't yet.
Found this but I could not find a specific law requiring hands free. I was thinking such a law went into effect about a year ago but guess not. ===================== FYI for those with teens Teen cell phone law begins Dec. 1, 2006 8/2/2006 4:45 PM http://rdu.news14.com/content/politics/?ArID=88622&SecID=480
After reading that blog....I can honestly say that if that blogger believes that pile of crap he wrote, he must be the most naive person in the world...or trying to jumpstart Fred's doomed Gubernatorial bid for 2008. The blogger failed to mentioned that Fred was running in an overwhelming GOP District and that he probably outspent his opponent 25-1. (or more)
"If he were to run against Sherry Altman again I would bet he would lose." And you would lose the bet.
Doesn't matter. Next time, Fred is running for Governor (I heard a rumor from an inside source, third hand). I don't think Sherry will be running against him, not yet anyway. ...We won't get fooled again!
Not much of an inside rumor..its been speculated in the N&O, NCSPIN.com, etc for over a year. Big question is, what Republican will take his place? With the way the district is drawn, its a safe GOP district, which is why the State Democrat Party doesn't spend time or money on it. So who will be the new GOP Senator from Johnston County in 2008?
It's been passed as a law for teens up until they are 18 I think, and there are exceptions to the law, they can call 911 & their parents.
Right you are, Grace. Sherry impresses me as a bright woman with good ideas who has what it takes to deliver her message without resorting to tired old cliches and vacuous attacks used by many politicians today. I don't think anyone should underestimate her, certainly not her next opponent. We could very well have one more Dem in the state senate. BTW, how are you feeling, GS. I heard you've been under the weather for the last, what, 30 years? Any chance of a Jefferson Airplane reunion tour?
Very good. So far you are the only one who knows the name. I would love the Jefferson Airplane to get back together. Miss those days and all of the music. Some new artist are trying, but still not the same. We must be about the same age or just like the same music.[/quote] You must be kidding! Are we really that old? No doubt the late sixties / early seventies had the best music ever. Let's see, I was a kid when I was into the Beatles, my Pink Floyd era started in my early teens, and by the time I was graduating high school I was wondering if Disco was EVER going to die a merciful death (all the while being amazed by Santana's guitar skills.) Is that about the same time frame you experienced? ...Remember what the doorknob said...
Granted she lost in big part because of money. But a big reason is because the Senate district is a "safe" GOP district. (You had a GOP sheriff with opposition get over 75% of the vote) A credible candidate with backing from the State Democrat party would have been defeated just as Ms. Altman was..probably with not much difference in the percentage. Now, if the GOP falls on its face and there's a mass turnaround in the next 2 yrs, that may change...but my guess would be this State Senate district will not change until after redistricting is done in 2011. I do give Ms. Altman credit though..it takes a lot of nerve to go out there with very little chance and put your ideas before a mostly uncaring public. So it comes down to my original question...if Fred Smith runs for governor in 2008, who will be the Republican that takes his place??l
How about James Langdon for the R candidate? A contest between him and Sherry would be interesting. That would leave the House seat for this district open. What candidates, R & D, (and Green or Libertarian, for that matter) would you suggest for the House seat?
I think JH Langdon might try to go to the Senate, but at the same time, he may be to the age that he prefers his safe House seat. A contest between JH and Sherry is no contest...JH has the experience as a County Commissioner, State Rep, and it will still be a GOP seat. The State Democrat Party wouldn't waste a lot of time, money or effort for any Democrat, unless there was some GOP scandal or backlash in the next 2 yrs. If JH moved up, his House seat is also a safe GOP seat, so I doubt the State Democrat party would be any money toward it either.
