What happened to Gandolfo's Deli at 40/42? I noticed a little while back that the sign was down and it had a "Now Open" banner over the front entrance and then when I got home tonight there was a flyer in the mail for the deli that is now operating under the name of Formanos. Just curious as to why Gandolfo's went out of business.

Went there often, did ya? hmmmm, and we wonder why our locally owned businesses "disappear."

That was kind of harsh.. I liked Gandolfo's, but only went there handful of times myself. I don't specifically live @ 4042, I live closer to Clayton and unless I'm going to Lowes Home Imp. I really don't go far enough up 42 to have the need to cross over 40 very often. With gas prices, it's kind of silly not to stop somewhere on the way as opposed to going miles out of my way just for a sub. Maybe Gandolfos should have picked a better/busier location. I never saw that they advertised much or sent out coupons in the Coupon Mailers, or the Clayton Clipper...

    Thats just my 2cents..

Actually I did go there quite often when they 1st opened. After a few bad visits I quit going regularly. The last time I was there was around Thanksgiving. Now you know. Any other questions?

How often did you go there and support our "locally" owned restaurant that's a franchisee of a company based in GA?

We went there twice, both times the food was decent, and I felt like it was overpriced for the size and quality of the portions.

I wish the new owners the best of luck. I'd much rather support a true local business anyway.

I was wondering what happened to that place. I only have went one time and wasn't impressed. Thats the reason I didn't go back. It was a good tasting sub but if i'm paying extra to go for the 12 inch, then they better be a decent amount of meat on there. IT wasn't so that turned me off from them.

Do you know if the new place is open on Sunday's and what time they might open?

Not sure, Rocky. Drive by and check out the door. I *think* the hours are posted there. Haven't seen any real advertising, showing the hrs.

hmmm that's sad to here about gandolfo's. I know (well more like knew) the owner very well. He's a pretty awesome guy from the morman church in smithfield (where i met him). at least he still has his smithfield store.
