I know that there are gangs in NC and even in JoCo. But really in my little corner. I went out yesterday and found that " Folk Nation" had tagged a stop sign in my little corner of the world. "Folk Nation" has ties with the "Crips" !!!!!! Yeah!!!!!

Then today I found another one that wasn't tagged yesterday. By the way if some one is wondering it's a blue six pointed star (star of david) and a "C" off to the left of the star.

You wouldn't think it was here, but it is. My 17yr old step son, who now resides with his mother, has CRIPS tattooed across his knuckles.

The word CRIPS sounds new to me. What is exactly CRIPS? Also, what is FOLK nation? Bear with me, I'm in my 40's and am already behind with vocab.

    Crips: Common Revolution in Progress.

Started in LA in the 70's. Bloods, came from as a rivial gang from Compton Prius .

Folk Nation ties in with Crips. They use a Six ponited star(star of David in blue)

Peoples Nation ties in with Bloods. They use a Five pointed star. (pentagram in red)

I emailed the JoCo crime tip line already.

I saw a "C" over the same type of star on US 70 Business westbound (between Pine Level and Smithfield) today.

My son had told me how many want-to-be gang people are in school. They're always making signs with their hands and sounds that signify gun fire. Drawing all over things marking their area like a dog pissing on a stop sign.
My view on this gang thing is, what a bunch of punks!!!!! There is so much more productive things they could be doing but instead they use their gang crap and intimidation tactics to try prove some sort of hierarchal order.
My view with those idiots is if they really like violence then take them all to an Island with are elite forces and see how tough they are then.

Yeah they do give it a very bad name. The sad facts are that many of these gangs came here from out west for reasons like their parents moved here to find better jobs and make a better life for their kids. Their kids in turn just brought us what they were dealing with out west. It's funny to me listening in the local retail stores how these kids talk to each other and about each other.

I would like to think that it is just wann -be-gang people running around tagging stuff but I am not that happy go lucky about life. Arm up, and be on watch is all I can suggest .

I heard Donnie Harrison (Wake Co. Sheriff) on Carolina Close Up radio program on Sat morning between jobs.

He spoke about gangs in Wake County and said that the number of gangs has increased in a big way in the past couple of years. He said that while some of these gangs are 'wannabes' there are a lot of real ones and that the department keeps an eye on the ones they know about. You can't arrest someone for being in a gang UNTIL they commit a crime. He mentioned that for the most part, gang violence is between gangs at the moment.

He went on to say that they depend on the PUBLIC to call them and give them a heads up IF they suspect gang activity in their neighborhoods, so that they can keep tabs on it. Harrison said that a number of gang members are locked up and when he speaks to them, he learns that many have parents who really aren't interested in what they are doing and that the parents are too busy with their own busy lives to keep up with what their child is up to. They (gang members) by being in a gang, find some void filled by the gang - that they feel they belong and that someone cares...sure we can shake our heads at that, but it does stand to reason.

He said he was amazed also about how many parents actually call the department complaining that their pre-teen child is "out of control" He commented that he tells them, "There is a difference between discipline and child abuse" ...he mentioned that it's the parents job to discipline their children.

If you see them in your neighborhood, call about the gang tags.

If you have kids, remember gangs recruit members as young as 7 or 8 years of age! Ask your kids what the heck they are up to. Make sure you know where they are going to be and who they are going to be with when they head out. Ask questions! Demand respect! And wake up to the fact that if they are under 16 and they don't have a job and they aren't at a neighbors house where you know the parents are like you and give a damn and someone is home with them, then make sure your kids are sitting in YOUR house by 8PM. I drive around all hours and can't tell you how many KIDS are hanging out on the streets at 10PM when it's 35 degrees out on a Wednesday night...they have nothing to get into but trouble.

It's all good and well to want your child to like you, but keep in mind, you are a parent first, the 'friend' part should wait until they are mature. Being able to say you were your kids friend will be of little comfort if they end up in jail or dead.

The star of david is in honor of one of their leaders, David Barksdale.

If they ever stopped fighting with each other and formed one united group, we'd all be in trouble. But with people this stupid, that prospect is hilarious. What a waste of molecules.

If people can't figure out how to raise kids any better than this, maybe its time we instituted fertility licensing. These are just stray humans with no more value than stray dogs or cats. They should be disposed of accordingly.

Actually, they have less value...Stray dogs and cats aren't usually looking to start trouble. This David person should serve as the poster child of birth control for parents who just don't get their 'job'.

the name "Crips" doesn't stand for anything, what you mentioned is a backronym of their name.

    Going with what I got from my text book: Organized Crime (third edition) By Michael D. Lyman and Gary W. Potter;
    Pearson hall press.

Wikipedia is great but it is still just a reasource not the end all be all of study. I am not saying that my book is right either but that is the information is there and I used it.

I am currently enrolled in criminal justice at Wake Tech.

Yeah, sorry. I'm just kinda in a copy and paste mood today. You got yours from a textbook, so i assume its probably right more than Wikipedia. i'll leave it up there though, because the quote is a link to the wikipedia article about them which could provide people with information if they're looking for it.

In class a couple of weeks back we had a raleigh gang unit officer in class. He spoke on the "coping" of what is on tv showing gang/thug life. But he also stated that the movement from west coast to east was also families leaving the west coast and the gang life coming with. There was also the fleeing criminal coming to new area's where he/she is an unknown to local law enforcement but will be welcomed by the "set" (gang family) in the area.
