I have noticed so much more litter around roadways and parking lots recently. Someone told me that the state has quit having prisoners clean up roads due to a person getting hit by a car. Is this true? I think the area has gotten awful, when I always used to think the Triangle was very clean.
I've been noticing that too! It looks absolutely horrible and honestly is embarassing for those traveling through. There was an inmate killed recently while cleaning the roads. Have to guess that's the reason why they haven't been out much lately - or because of the cold weather.
The state has stopped the inmate cleanups along major highways for the time being. There was an article in the N&O not too long ago about it. The article mentioned that it was due to the unsafe conditions and listed the one killed. How's this for an answer : http://www.newsobserver.com/674/story/935962.html That should do it!
Well, I guess I better start carrying my camera with me. Someone needs to take a picture of the Food Lion parking lot at 40/42. It was horrendous yesterday.
May be we should stop being such slobs. On a relatednote, since Ron Paul has given up his race, in all but those actual words, will the Ron Paul supporters start removing the bumper stickers and signs they put up everywhere illegally?
I was in the Lowes parking lot in Wilkesboro this past weekend, and watched a couple clean out their car and throw all their trash under the car and then drive away. I couldn't believe it, I would never do that! (there were probably 4 crumpled up papers in all)
you can report littering online. maybe if enough slobs get letters our roadsides will look better. http://www.ncdot.org/doh/operations/dp_chief_eng/roadside/Beautification/Litterbug/
Well...I wondered what was up with the litter here. Moving from out of state, I was really surprised! Of course it Albuq. we had red light cameras, speeding cameras, cell phone police, smoking police, litter police...it was getting crazy. When I walk to the bustop I pick up some litter everyday now.
The N & O is looking for photo's of the trash to publish in the paper and on their website. We thought of publishing what we have found but then we didn't want to hurt our neighbors chances for selling their home. In the year that we have been here the trash has really gotten bad not just on 40 but the small roads all over JOCO. We think alot of it is coming off the trash haulers like Waste Mgmt.(they are the worst). And we have several neighbors that do not secure their trash when they go to the dump. We have complained to the county and they are reluctant to enforce the ordinances regarding the storage and hauling of househould waste. So it seems that we will all have to adopt a road and police it.
After seeing this thread for a few days, I noticed on 40/440 the trash is really horrible. It's like full sheets of plastic and crap all over the road. What a shame. Hopefully the prisoners will get it soon!
People should stop being slobs. The Key Club at Clayton High will be out cleaning up different roads soon. They do this every year. After a 30 hour fast they clean roads, work at food banks, etc. This might be a good job for those kids who get in trouble at school for violence, drugs, sex, etc. After cleaning the sides of roads maybe they will decide school is a better option. Grace
If we will not let prisoners do this because it is dangerous, are we willing to turn our offspring loose on the side of the road? I say that all those with speeding tickets should go out there and clean the roads while dodging other crazy drivers at the same time.
