My wife and I are looking at having our fireplace replaced with gas logs. I contacted Piedmont Natural Gas and the rep came out and told me how much it would cost to run lines. He said he would bring back product info on the logs available. That was over 2 weeks ago. Haven't heard a peep. Does anyone know of someone in the area who sells and installs gas logs. I have a pretty small house so we don't need huge ones. Please let me know.
Go to Lowe's and see what they have to say. They do sell them and maybe it can be an easy install for you without breaking the bank. And if this guy hasn't gotten back to you, then that is not a good sign. Find someone else.
http://southeastfireplace.com/gas.html This company installed ours in our new house (for the builder). We called them shortly after moving in to check things out, hook them to the main line to the tank, and we were really happy with the service.
Be careful! We just went through a lot and learned a lot about fireplaces and gas logs. If you have a fireplace insert with a chimney flue, you cannot use vent free gas logs in them and that is the only kind Lowes sells right now. You have to use vented logs. If it was a wood burning fireplace, you have to use vented unless you are going to have the firebox pulled out and replaced. We looked into that and besides ~$500 for the new fireplace box and ~400 for the install, the logs were going to run ~400. We already had vented logs but had an issue with reaching in to turn them off. David (from Clayton) with Fireplace and Casual Living on Capital Blvd. was very helpful and we replaced a part on our logs so they could be operated by a remote. They sell vented logs so you may want to check them out and ask for him. They have people they recommend for the install or a gas company can do it. We had Amerigas come put the new part on, recheck the pressure and they found a leak on the auto shut off safety valve and fixed it. Their rate was very reasonable.
