The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation and River City Arts Gallery will host its 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Competition to be held during the 2009 holiday season. The DSDC hopes the public will embrace this opportunity to express their creativity and to see the gingerbread houses and current exhibition on display at the gallery, located at 109 South Third Street in Downtown Smithfield. Contestants may drop off their culinary creations and entries at the gallery on Tuesday, December 8, between 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Competition rules and entry forms can be downloaded at www.downtownsmithfield.com. There is no cost to enter the competition, which has adult, teen and youth divisions. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each division. The Gingerbread Houses will be on display at the River City Arts Gallery for public viewing from Wednesday, December 9th through Monday, December 21st. There is no cost to view the gallery. Downtown Smithfield is home to several other special events during the holiday season, including the Smithfield Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 10, and free Carriage Rides with Santa on Friday, December 18.
