Anyone here have a girl scout?

I'd like to hear about the time and financial commitment that's involved.

    Thanks!

Hmm, the scouts in our hood must be a little slow on the uptake!

I have a cub scout selling popcorn and a Girl Scout that will have cookies in January. Jen, as far as the $$ for Girl Scouts, if I remember correctly, it's $10 to join each year. But, you'll also want to "join" for $10 too so that you can attend trips with her. If this would be her first year, she will need a vest or shash and starter patches. My daughter just renewed, but she's in Cadet's, which is 6th grade (11yrs.) and up. If I remember correctly I've read that your daughter is in 5th grade...that would be Juniors. My daughter had to have a new vest for Cadets and the starter patches, which came to about $35.00. Some troops collect "dues" to help pay for activities and trips, it just depends on what the troop decides as to how much. OUr's is $10 now and $10 at the 1st of the year. Hope this helps.

    Carol,

Thanks. We did Daisy Scouts one year and then we quit, so I remember paying $10 for her and $10 for me because I co-led a troup. How often do the girls usually meet? She thinks she wants to do it again, so looks like we might have cookies in January too. (Perfect, right when I'm having a baby and trying to lose weight, I'll be up to my shoulders in cookies)

I am a Brownie leader. Not every troop meets the same amount of times a month. Some might once, some twice, some more. My daughter will be a Brownie this year. :)

Just FYI, a vest or sash is not a requirement. No uniform is at all. All that is required is that each girl wears their GS pin to id them as a GS at functions. :D It is up to each individual if they want a sash, vest, whole uniform, etc. I think that is great for anyone that might not be able to purchase an entire uniform, although they look so darn cute!

Jen, pm your # if you'd like because my leader said she will see her area manager this weekend and can give it to her so she can contact you with a troop leader for this area.
