Aside from the obvious, what is the difference between glass lenses and plastic lenses? Can i take my prescript for my new lenses that i was going to get glass, and go with plastic?
Glass lenses are much heavier than plastic and rarely used. Are these for safety glasses or normal wear? Alot also depends on your prescription. I'm not sure why anyone would choose glass over plastic these days; most plastic lenses are coated to be scratch resistant and even come with guarantees. I worked in the optical field (still do in a way) plastic is the better way to go.
Remembering from way back when I worked for an optomotrist............it depends. I can't think of a good reason to go with actual glass lenses except that they are much more resistant to scratches. Plastic can have coatings to help with that. Transitions lenses don't work quite as well as the photograys if you are looking at that. It goes without saying that the platic is much lighter, especially if you have a pretty hefty prescription. Whoever makes your glasses should be able to answer any questions you have. DH finally gave up glass lenses for plastic about 6 years ago and has never regretted it. Luvgoose was posting while I was typing. : )
I do not know. I got my first pair ever last year and i assumed they were glass. Now they have some scratches on them and i have a new prescription that seemed kind of costly. I have seen ad's for plastic lenses for $99 and less so i am trying to get more info on them. The eye doc i just went to didnt say anything about different types (glass, plastic) so i really have no idea what i have.
More than likely, you got plastic. Most would have to special request glass lenses now. Your vision correction is the same with both. Makes no difference.
You probably have plastic unless you specifically asked for glass. I have glass lenses and they actually cost more since it is rare that they do those now. I get glass for the increase in color for the photogray over the transitions. I have worn glasses for 32 years and don't notice the weight difference. I did try plastic once and was not happy with the transitions. That was when they first came out so it might be better now. I also have a strong Rx that is more expensive anyway. After a lengthy discussion with my optometrist, we decided that staying with glass was best for me. He did say that I am one of only 2 or 3 in his entire practice that still uses glass. Good luck with your decision.
I also was given the information about an online place to get glasses. Check out www.zunnioptical.com. Their costs are pretty good.
I think you mean zennioptical.com I just ordered two pair of glasses for when I'm reading 40/42 and stuff. One regular pair and one crazy looking set-up. I also ordered three pair of sun clips for them... all for around 40 bucks with shipping. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out when they come in.
It's not that difficult, people. Click once on the address bar. The entire url will be highlighted. Hold down the control key and press the "c" key. Go to the place you want the url to appear. Hold down control and press "v". Voila! A clickable link. http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php
I would have done that had I taken then time to actually go to the site. I just remember the site where I spent an hour of my life the other day. Call me lazy but I didn't want to break away from reading all these valuable threads.
