Just received this e-mail from Chuck E. Cheese that they are now offering gluten-free options on their menu. Looks like they have put a lot of thought into the processing/serving, etc. Fortunately, no one in our house needs it, but thought I would pass it along for someone who does. http://chuckecheese.com/new-glutenfree-offerings?utm_source=BH&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=011713
Heard this morning that per a recent judicial ruling that all restaurants may end up having to do this to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Allergies are now being considered a disability.
I can't imagine how a restaurant can do it. You literally have to separate gluten free products from the ones with gluten in them. People with severe gluten allergies can get sick from cross contamination from using the same utensil to cook with both products. I am all for it personally, being gluten intolerant. It's not as important for me to separate the products and I won't become deathly ill from having gluten sneak in something, but many will.
I agree, I can't see how a non-chain operation, that wasn't specifically established around this, can survive. Correction from previous post, it was not a Judicial judgement but a Justice Department settlement. Gov't: Food Allergies May Be Disability Under Law
